Be careful selling on Craigslist

Or have a gun evidently... But you are correct... One should not meet alone nor on private land... Least we forget that is what Markoff used...

I think it is better to meet at Walmart parking lot or nearest police station. :hmm:

You would be amazed how unsafe those locations are... Many robberies, assaults, rape and murder happen in those areas... Inside either is much better than outside of them...

Oh well, I live in town that where crime is almost nonexistent (beside DUI and domestic violence), also I rarely sell stuff on Craigslist.

Police Officer: Are you waiting to file the report? What you do with cardboard box?
Seller: No, I'm waiting for someone to make transaction with someone that bought on Craigslist.
Police Officer: Why are you selling stuff at police department?
Seller: It is for safety reason because many people got robbed and killed when attempt to sell stuff.
Police Officer: Are you aware about solicitation isn't permitted in police department?
Seller: No... I'm here for safety reason.
Police Officer: You can go to jail for that.
Seller: Oh crap, I'm leaving...

Many places don't allow solicitation inside of their place.

Silly of the seller not to call ahead and let them know or ask about the situation ... Smh

It was just funny, not serious.

It will be depending on police officers - all of them are different.

Police stations across the United States are offering their lobbies and parking lots as "safe zones" to conduct Craigslist transactions, according to reports.

This week, a Yarmouth, Mass., police department became one of the latest to open their facility to people looking to buy or sell goods in a safe location, according to upi.com.

The online classifieds site Craigslist recently updated its safety page, suggesting users "consider making high-value exchanges at your local police station."

I have bought many things on craigslist and half the time I end up at the person's house.... it's weird. I always bring like 3 people just in case the seller has other plans. The only time I have ever sold anything at my house, it was my goats because you can go to the local park or walmart parking lot to sell some goats that would be silly. But the dude told me before hand that he was bring his 14 month old daughter so I wasn't to concerned about him trying anything, plus my husband is a navy vet and has a gun lol. But house craigslist exchanges are creepy and ackward

so did the idiot correct the officer that its not solicitation? Completely different than making a transaction.

I have not done any Craigslist transactions as either buyer or seller. But I keep reading about "safe" places to exchange and wonder if there isn't still the possibility of being followed from that "safe" place?

You can sell a goat on this list?i never heard about goats,so walk goat to park (good luck on that)transactions complete he walks goat off how do you know if gone to goat approved land.
Dereck talks of this list is it just American thing

don't know if it's just an American thing but you can pretty much sell whatever is considered "property" on Craigslist - dogs<sadly>, cars, doorknobs, whatever.

Something not ethical about animal being property.i thought things like eBay banned from selling animals..Something I read about that being banned in Europe selling live stock I maybe wrong..
I read a lot about Craig's list

Where do you think all live stock and pets come from? Breeders. Born, raised and sold as property. I get my chickens from the hardware store and my dogs from breeders who raise dogs for a living.

I see way to many 9mo puppies on craigs. People don't bother to train their dogs and then don't understand why they are out of control. Fun when they are little puppies but destructive when they are full grown. Very very sad.

There where a few robberies by me recently. Someone would come to check out a tool for sale posted on craigs and then the next week the garage would get robbed. They where just scoping things out.

Not worth for going to jail when attempt to correct police officer, that's no customer service manager that where you can easily deal with them so some police officers abused their power by throwing you in jail for not following the order.

The sheriff deputy declared that he committed me to mental hospital over PTSD but I told them that I waited for taxi so they said not needed and they take me via police officer and filed the report. My decision with hospital was voluntary but sheriff deputy made as mandatory commitment. I'm not fond about all law enforcement agencies.

I avoid jails at all charge and want my background check to be clean for employment but no wonder, I will fail the background check for firearm due to commitment, but I don't care about firearm at all anymore.

Maybe if you could find an actual incident where a police officer put someone in jail for utilizing the Police Department for a Craigslist sale?
