Be careful selling on Craigslist

Oh well, I live in town that where crime is almost nonexistent (beside DUI and domestic violence), also I rarely sell stuff on Craigslist.

Police Officer: Are you waiting to file the report? What you do with cardboard box?
Seller: No, I'm waiting for someone to make transaction with someone that bought on Craigslist.
Police Officer: Why are you selling stuff at police department?
Seller: It is for safety reason because many people got robbed and killed when attempt to sell stuff.
Police Officer: Are you aware about solicitation isn't permitted in police department?
Seller: No... I'm here for safety reason.
Police Officer: You can go to jail for that.
Seller: Oh crap, I'm leaving...

Many places don't allow solicitation inside of their place.

solicitation is a crime... meaning you pay or conduct a business with others that involves a crime. for example... prostitution... hiring a hitman... drug sale.... etc.

conducting a lawful business is fine. you do not have to meet inside the police station but outside is fine. if you're really that paranoid... you can go inside and ask the sergeant if he's cool with you waiting and meeting with some stranger to make an exchange.

Not worth for going to jail when attempt to correct police officer, that's no customer service manager that where you can easily deal with them so some police officers abused their power by throwing you in jail for not following the order.

The sheriff deputy declared that he committed me to mental hospital over PTSD but I told them that I waited for taxi so they said not needed and they take me via police officer and filed the report. My decision with hospital was voluntary but sheriff deputy made as mandatory commitment. I'm not fond about all law enforcement agencies.

I avoid jails at all charge and want my background check to be clean for employment but no wonder, I will fail the background check for firearm due to commitment, but I don't care about firearm at all anymore.

police supervisor. court judge. and lastly.... if they were at fault... sue them if you want :)

I have bought many things on craigslist and half the time I end up at the person's house.... it's weird. I always bring like 3 people just in case the seller has other plans. The only time I have ever sold anything at my house, it was my goats because you can go to the local park or walmart parking lot to sell some goats that would be silly. But the dude told me before hand that he was bring his 14 month old daughter so I wasn't to concerned about him trying anything, plus my husband is a navy vet and has a gun lol. But house craigslist exchanges are creepy and ackward

That is no guarantee the person would had not tried anything b/c they're bring their baby. People commit crimes all the time with their kids in the e back seat of a car. I wouldn't trust a person just b/c they had a baby with them.

My uncle was robbed at gunpoint when he stopped to help what appeared to be a pregnant woman broke down on the side of the road. There was a man hiding in the back seat of the car who pulled a gun when my uncle tried to start her car. They took his car and his money.

We bought my Jeep, TCS's trike, and our camper from Craig's list, no problems. TCS always brings another guy with him, wears his sidearm, leaves me with a trip plan, and checks in frequently.

Actually ! A cute baby or pregnant woman made it all look so
safe ! How horrible ! I hope your uncle wasn't hurt , I guess he never got his car back. I use to have Finlay wear his jacket that said 'Hearing Dog'
on both sides and on the back when I went shopping with him. People started to follow me out of the store 'trying' to read his vest. I stopped putting his vest on after this happen. Finlay would let me know when someone behind me by looking back and I would look back , I also watch people closely . There one good thing about having abusive father I learned to be very observing and notice a lot of things most hearing people don't .

My dad once saw a woman getting beaten up by a guy and dad when after the guy and began beating the crap out of him , dad was a boxer. The woman jumped on top of dad to stop him from beating up her man . You just never know when you help or call 911.

the same warnings for Craigslist can also be applied to Ebay, all those Freecycle groups and any other sites where you'd have to meet up with someone to pick up/drop off something.

True.

its public property, not private..... big difference too....

I have dealt with 1000's of craigslist transactions, both at home and abroad.
When they come to my home I usually say call or text me first so I can make sure the dogs are put up or some excuse that makes them worry ( I did have dogs )

if they know the home is secured, or others are there, there is no worry. Also never say I wont be here if, when,ect.... I say Im ALWAYS home, if theyre up to no good, you dont let them know when the house is empty.

I myself never had an issue except selling a car, Had a 78 Caprice classic that was a sleeper. When the dude showed up, he brought 8 carloads of people ( bunch of Thugs ) yeah, I pulled my plug wires and battery and kept it under watch for a good month after.... No reason to bring a crowd like that for anything. Another reason I hate the city.

I've sold over $5,000 worth of camera and lens to someone through craigslist, and I had a friend to come with me and meet someone inside of bank, and he really like my camera gears and he went to bank teller to cash it and hand it to me so I know those cash are not fake and went off with a smile face.

I sold my old MacBook Pro and iPhone via craigslist and met someone at upper shopping center without any problem.

I haven't used CL in years, but I've always been cautious and plan safely. I know that's not foolproof, even the best plans can go awry. But the same holds true for other meet-ups other than CL.

I hired an electrician for my smoke detectors in a previous home, a carpet repair guy, a computer repair guy, sold my old wedding dress, all sorts of stuff. Nothing even remotely close came to a bad situation because I checked them all out first (at least the people I hired). The dress was sold through a front-door exchange where I left the dress outside and she dropped off the money at the same time. Nobody even met in person. The only part about that I didn't like was giving out my home address, but it all turned out ok. And had she taken the dress and not left the money, I wouldn't have cared. I was willing to take that risk.

I hate front door exchanges. I once did an under the car exchange. The women left a metal cookie tin under her car at work with the money in it and I switched the money for the item. It was weird. We also had a person try to meet me at an old warehouse at like 10pm.... creepy already so I told him it wouldn't work out and moved on. I also had a weird one where the women invited us inside of her house, talked to us for about an hour, showed us the item and then just stand and stare. We gave her the money quickly and left before she asked us to join her for dinner lol

Btw I'm in oregon so selling livestock is very normal around here. We even have goat and horse sharing where people get contracts to have the animal on your property for X amount of days and pay for X amount of things and care for the animal. Some goats have 12 homes. Goats can only be on city property for 3 days and off for 30 but black berries are a huge problem. Lol oregon is weird
