Actually stranger danger is WAY overblown as a risk....Most stuff like abductions, sexual abuse is comitted by someone the child knows (family member, teacher, coach etc)
Try hanging out in Lynn, Massachusetts. The danger isn't any where near overblown. A few years back, we had a little boy taken off his bike by two guys driving by in a car, raped and killed. Another boy also riding in Lynn on a bike, grabbed and we still haven't found the body. It's attitudes like this that put people on a dangerous path. While many crimes happen by someone known, just as many happen by complete strangers and random acts. Another story I remember happened in Boston. A nanny visiting from another country was working here, she went to a bar with friends, got drunk and stayed behind with a stranger at the bar. They found the upper torso which the parents took back with them, the bottom part was missing and her body was drained of blood meaning she was killed some place else and dumped. We've never solved that crime either - and in that case too - it was a stranger.
