Baby born with brain outside skull

That’s like pouring sugar on the ground to drive the ants away. Now EVERYBODY is going to click on it.
Not true for me.

Heath will verify that at first I didn't even want to click on the video when he requested that I listen to it, and interpret it. It was only by his request that I opened it. And then, I focused on the audio.

I tried google to find another story similar to this one, but I didn't find any, wondering if this whole thing is fake?...hmmm..
I believe it's real. I just meant that I think it's possible that the video was made without permission. Maybe someone snuck a camera phone into the hospital. It didn't look "official" to me. What legitmate reason would there be to post the baby's image on the web?

Not me, I don't click on bloody things....

Actually, it’s not bloody at all. But it is VERY strange looking. BTW, your new avatar is cool. Where did you find it? I want to see the full-sized picture.

Yes, Reba did not want to see it knowing what the headline alone said and I had to tell her that it is not bloody. It is just regular skin and she was still un-comfortable with wanting to see the video clip. I told her the truth about the video clip not being bloody and just regular skin. She did not want to see the video clip itself. I was really shocked when I first clicked on the homepage of the liveleak website and that is something I do not see everyday and I had forgotten that for women, babies are a very sensitive subject. I agree with the video clip probably being done on the sly to show what an odd baby it was which is really not fair to the parents or to the baby. It did not seem like a real official news interview professionally done for the nightly t.v. news. If you are not sure what the Live:eak website is and it is a merger with the Orgish website and it really was not very appropriate for LiveLeak to be showing that on their website. I would except something like this from the rotten.com website but the orgish website had better content and orgish tried to show the moral of the story which was something that I liked but now I am not sure who Liveleak is and I think that was a very poor decision on their part to be showing that on their website.

Thank you Reba for trying to do your best. :) :thumb:

Actually Eve, Kingofnoobs is correct. This baby's condition could have been prevented with some folic acid in the diet. It's a tragedy that was preventable.

Yes, I aware that folic acid is important in body and also pregnancy as well but I wasn't realize that who have very low folic acid could cause birth defects. wow, it's interesting to read those link... Thank you for share those link with us... I'm learning to understand why/how it come from... I save this link in my favorite link..

I feel pain after saw link in Lev's post... :(

Yes I beleive the same as you but I guess that video is an official in "Turkey" (?). I saw TV every day for 20 minutes where the malforation babies and children, Siamese twines etc... in different countries. It's about donation to help the parents in poor country to have surgery on their malforation babies/children.

The video would of not clean if someone use camera phone... See the example of Saddam Hussein's Execution. It look like that the doctor accept someone to film him and his talk? Someone would sue doctor if it's not official.

My Turkish co-worker is not here... I will remember this thread and will ask him to hear the tones either it's turkish or not...

It was probably taken with a poor quality camcorder/video camera or, possibly one that doesn't have sound/mike working properly. Or even a digital camera that has video capacities like mine does, I can shoot videos with it.

Ok maybe this condition can't be prevent. Fine. But still it is recommendable for all pregnant women to eat lot of vegs and be on folic diet.
And just what makes you think this mother didn’t eat her veggies? Bit judgmental, eh?

I have a friend who was born with spina bifida, not because her mother did not partake in enough folic acid during her pregnancy, but because her body did not readily absorb and make use of the folic acid she did consume. These days, most women in developed countries do take supplements so that lack of folic acid is not an issue. Still, some congenital defects still occur and are not preventable through simple measures such as taking folic acid supplements. So, we have no idea what the circumstances were in this case and all we can do is quit jumping to conclusions that it was the mothers fault and simply sympathize with the situation as it is.

I know of several cases where the mother did everything right, eat healthy food, follow doctor instructions, she does not smoke or drink and stays away from secondhand cigarette smoke or use illegal drugs etc. in another words she was the perfect poster girl for women who are pregnant and staying healthy for the sake of their babies then 9 months later, the baby comes out deformed even though the mother did everything right so you really can't be pointing fingers at the mothers,

I also know some mothers who have done exactly the opposite, they drank, smoked and did drugs and pigged out on junk food etc, yet their babies turned out healthy.

I think and suspect it has more to do with the woman's body chemistry and her DNA also how her body affects the baby.

Or, it could be the FATHER'S DNA. They have linked a higher rate of autism among older fathers, so maybe other congential defects could be linked to the fathers as well.

Well, I've no clue what the situation is like in Turkey and I wasn't saying it was the mother's fault. Perhaps she couldn't afford a decent diet.

I agree that some congenital defects can happen despite all precautions. I merely thought that lack of folic acid was the most likely cause.

If mom was diabetic, she does have a higher risk of having a baby with a defect like the one in the video than a mom without diabetes.

While fathers can pass on defects to infants, this defect isn't one of them.

You do have to feel sorry for the family.

I certainly feel sorry for all involved, baby and family.

Someone told me it was.....

Off-topic

Thanks, I got that avatar from google after typing in "abuse avatars ", Sorry, I don't have a full-sized picture of it, got it just as it shown :)

It seems I was wrong about fathers' not passing on the gene for defects like this one.

However, genes by themselves won't cause neural tubes defects like the one in video. A proper diet will decrease the risk.

But sometimes you can do everything right and tragedies like this one can happen.

I didn´t see the judgement of Kingofnoobs´s post but his suggestion. :dunno:

Nobody says it´s mother´s fault... It´s just suggestion about foods etc where many people unaware about important and health foods. I find his post good and useful for us to learn where it come from... etc. No one judge mother for that...
