What do you know about crack babies?

Ummm...crack babies. Okay...let's see.

Annually, between 375,000 and 700,000 "crack" babies are born in the United States. Born prematurely to crack-addicted mothers, these children were thought by researchers to be living time-bombs - damaged mentally and physically and perhaps even a threat to society once they are grown. This group of children has even been called the "lost generation. Media reports, from Rolling Stone to Time magazine, described some of the intellectual delays and extreme aggressive behavior associated with these children. Recent research, however, shows that with intervention, some of the prenatally drug-exposed babies can grow up healthy emotionally, physically, and mentally.

Might I ask what your concern is, specifically?

so how is your son doing in academics even though you feel the school system can do for him?? is he still behind or what?

He does well when you sit and work with him. He's a highly perceptive and righteous child - very sensitive and very sweet. Mikey will grow up to be a fine man. My younger one is the one who scares me, behavior wise. LOL. All joking aside - and as for academics - Mikey is a bit behind with Math skills, Reading skills. Even the basics. He has a lot of trouble staying focused and working independently. Most of the problem is his performance in class. This is not something I can help him with - he's got to rely on his instructors for the in-class help that he needs, but since the classrooms are too crowded, he isn't getting as much out of it as he needs. It's VERY frustrating. This teacher is a royal pain-in-the-ass, too. Sends the kid home with classwork he hasn't finished, on top of regular homework assignments that take him until sometimes 8:00pm or 9:00pm to finish. He's only in second grade!

Well, yes, and no.

Yes, because the movies proved to be a cure for insomnia. No, because I slept through the whole damn thing. I absolutely HATE Lord of the Rings. LOL. Hey, at least I got caught up on sleep.

However, one of these days, I WOULD like to sit through all three movies and see if I can get into it. See, the way I figure it is, you're either a Harry Potter person or a Lord of the Rings person...

;)

it sounds like mikey is in the wrong place.. i think you have the right to complain... i think you should go to the school district and complain and find out if there are other schools or programs you can place mikey in?

The school that is closest to our home is where Mikey would be zoned to attend - but that school does not offer the plus-program that he is currently a participant of. Supposedly, the school he is in is a good one. He did pretty well last year, but the teacher he had was a lot more receptive to Mikey's needs. I think the biggest problem here is the teachers. Mikey had a birthday party to attend not too long ago - and there were many kids from his class present. EVERY SINGLE PARENT was complaining about these teachers. EVERY SINGLE ONE! You believe that? My husband has an appointment with Mikey's teachers next week and he's planning on asking just WHAT is being done for Mikey in class. I'll let you know what happens. :)

then why dont you meet with every mother that made similiar complaints that you made.. and then all of you go to someone and fight for it?? i think it will work cuz they will see more than one mother/complaint and probably do something about it instead of just having one mother.. they would care less?? my opinion... i could be wrong though as i am not a mother myself..

I did suggest that to my husband. We are waiting to see how the meeting goes. If we believe that these teachers are not giving Mikey the attention he needs, then yes, we will be contacting the necessary people to either have the teachers spoken to, or Mikey removed from that class or school. I don't know what'll happen - because the reality of it IS that Mikey does have problems with school and completing assignments. These teachers are nuts - totally old school, no pun intended. Both cranky and old, I'd say in their 50's or 60's. Been at it too long. Probably just after a paycheck, and to hell with the kids. Who knows? :dunno:

Really good one!!!

It´s really lovely that you both met as real life at last!

How do you feeling when you was at airport to pick Liza up? I can image it could be sort of mixed feeling when you saw Liza in real life, dont you?

Liza is a wonderful gal, Liebling. Coffeeeeman and I went to pick her up at the airport. Her plane was a little delayed, and there WAS that small matter of having to wait while she went through customs. :giggle: I guess they wanted to make sure that she wasn't smuggling in foreign sex toys or something that she could corrupt us Americans with. LOL.

No mixed feelings, though. It was exciting. We got along just fine, as you can see!

What a lovely picture of you and Liza,

I'm glad you both had a wonderful time together....I can see you both are really close, great to see you both happy!...

Ah I also had a wonderful time with you and Cheri and Roadrunner over the summer, ^Angel^!! I have to say meeting in person is definitely nice...you feel much more connected to them and closer, too. They become more real. Wouldn't you say??

I was trying to find a way to explain my guy about crack babies. I read in the newspaper the other day that this one woman had 3 crack babies and he wanted to know wtf it was. Don't worry, my girl is HEAAAALTHY :fingersx:
