I've almost given up on her wearing it in the car. It annoys me because I want her to hear those sounds, and also the music. It just won't stay on in the car. So far the longest she has lasted with it on is 5 minutes. I am hoping once the weather gets nicer here, it will stay on more. I think her jacket in the car makes it come off. And of course there are times she takes it off and pulls the entire thing out of her shirt and throws it. That is always fun in the car. I have her processor in a pocket in her onesie and she still manages to get it out even when she is strapped in.

It doesn't stay on in the stroller or her highchair either. I am hoping when she gets a little older she won't be leaning her head so much, or she will learn to put it back on herself. I think we just have to wait this one out and deal with it until things get better. It really is hard sometimes, at the end of the day you are tired of putting it back on for the 100th time.

All the rest of the times she is ok with it, unless she is tired.

Also, she wears the huggie. It stays on her ear for the most part. I would never go back to any kind of mold, she hated them. The huggie works, except it's pretty easy to seperate it from the ear piece, so she does that herself a lot! But that is once it's off her anyway. It does deter her a little from just ripping it off her ear.

Good luck, it does get easier.

Maybe that is just typical toddler behavior? I dont know if it counts but my mom told me that I used to take my HAs off all the time as a toddler and try to eat the mold. My 17 month old son always takes his hat off.

I agree with you! I think they know they have control over this, and they are testing us.

They are so cute. They get away with a lot because they are cute!!! Victoria loves to test me. She goes right to my entertainment unit in my living room and opens the doors. She then immediately looks at me and shakes her little finger, like she is saying no, no, no. They love the reaction they get!!

Yepo. I used to try and take my hearing aids off when I was little too. It only stopped when my mother started bribing me with Smarties (chocolate sweets). She was far more determined than me :)

It's only now as an adult that I really appreciate how tiring and time consuming it must have been for my mum making sure my hearing aids were being worn, switched on, working etc. Kudos to you parents :)

If those are pictures of your kids then I would let them get away with anything, they are all adorable.

If you suspect that Victoria is looking for a reaction then probably the best thing to do is to not react. Control your expression and just matter of factly put the magnet back on as if you are completely oblivious to her intentions. She will soon get bored but it may take time.

It's really common for all children - food as an example comes to mind and also staying in their beds at night. However, I've really noticed that the best tactic is simply not to give them the reaction that they are looking for and persist with putting them back to bed etc. They soon figure that it's not worth their while.

However, if she is genuinely uncomfortable then respond to her needs. Are you still signing with her? Does she indicate why she doesn't like wearing it in the car?

hahaha...I am scared to let my son get away with anything cuz he is starting the terrible two's. He slapped me in the face yesterday for bringing him inside. Starting to throw fits now. He is cute but getting slapped hurts! :giggle:

I don't mind. I love sharing war stories. We should call them "The Tales of The Toddlers". They are too cute sometimes. It is hard to get mad when they look up at you with a big old cheesy grin. Thanks for the feedback on the coil. It is such a pain. It will be worth it but a pain no less.

How is Ashley doing with everything else?
 
She is starting to pick up things much faster. She is crawling, pulling up, waving bye bye, playing patty cake (major), and still babbling. She has said da da a couple of times but I know it was a fluke. She has so many sensory issues with her hands and eating. It was a big breakthrough to get her to play patty cake and clap her hands. We are fighting eating solids now. She is going to be evaluated at an eating clinic in Richmond, VA at the Children's Hospital. She just doesn't want to eat food. She is still on the bottle. Her weight is the main concern. She does not look sick or too thin she is just WAY behind in weight gain. She is 19 months old and still just a little over lbs. She is tall though (29 in). She is coming out of her shell little bit by little bit. Her vision is doing fine right now. She only has to see one eye doc now instead of her 3 that she has been seeing. She even had an eye doc at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. We are in Virginia ( 4 hrs to Durham). She is I would guess about at a 10 to 12 month old level. In December she was at 6 month level. Little bit by little bit. She has had to over come so much I am extremely proud of her.

That is soooo true. I remember when Kayla would'nt get her way with something she would rip the coil off the cord and toss it. She wore a bodyworn Nucleus at the time and the coil and cable were two seperate pieces. It used to make me nuts and she knew it! I can't tellyou how many cables she destroyed. Fed Ex was at my door every other week with a package from Cochlear for me, lol. When i stopped reacting to her, she finally figured out that it was'nt going to work anymore and soon after she stopped. Imagine me at the mall and refusing to buy her everything in site and her pulling that on me. It makes me laugh when i think back to those days. People at the mall probably thought we were nuts:laugh2:


Ashleysmommy, sorry i had to throw that story in just in case you guys go through that, remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel! Ashleys progress gets better and better with every post. Things take time and as she gets used to the fact that sound has meaning she will be a little more cautious with her coil falling off. Does she have Sensory Integration? I remember reading up on that and it saying that occupational therapy worked great for kids with SI.

She is in OT. They have already worked wonders with her. I work on her after they are gone. They give us home work so to speak. We make it fun so she will stay sort of interested. She will get there.
 
Well, we had her second programing session today and a follow up with her doc. The doc walked in and spoke to me then Ashley. Ashley was laying on my shoulder with her face turned away from the door. When her doc spoke she popped her head up and looked around for her. She did very well with the Audi too. They have even said that in 4 months if we still want we can put things in motion for her second implant for the left ear. It is exciting. They were not sure how she would do so they decided to do one at a time and even told us it would be 1 or 2 years for the second one. I think they underestimated my munchkin! Oh and thank god for toupee tape and pilot caps. They have worked very well keeping her coil on. Sorry to ramble just wanted to update.

for me when I wake up and put my hearing aids on it's abit loud then will get use to it later in the day... this is awesome!!! well that's a good thing in time she'll know how to put it back on ... smile
 
She is doing much better with everything. She still jumps a little but not like she did. We have 3 new programs and volumes to try. I am so proud of her.

YEAH!!!! Just ONE eye doc. That's awesome! I kinda know how it is, since growing up I always had a multitude of docs.Although I only had general specialists. It does feel good to cross specialists off the list! Does that mean her vision's very stable now? Do they know her visual acuity? Its good that she's improved developmentally! How old is she again? And hopefully the CI will give her even MORE of a developmental boost.

Great to hear that - it sounds like she is gradually getting used to sounds. It's great that she is looking for the source of voices too :)
