Are you wearing HA, CI or never?

I used to wear hearing aids, but gave up with it, 8 years ago and never wore them since, because they caused the tinnitus every time I wear them, yikes!

tinnitus while you wear hearing aids like you hear ringing louder than sound you're hearing through hearing aids or after you take it off you get loud ringing? just wondering

Unfortunately, I have gone to Sydney to see if the CI would work for me over 10 years ago but it unfortunately won't work for me due that my nerves to the brain from my ears are dead

thats impossible if you wore hearing aids, your nerve connected to brain is working fine.

i think you might've misunderstood them maybe they meant hearing nerves in the cochlea not the brainstem nerves.

and 10 years ago and today is very different doctor and audiologist is more informed so it wont hurt to ask them again if you want to

Me, too!

I don't give any damn about HAs cuz it didn't help me understanding words at all either. What more? Being deaf is so peaceful, no more headaches hearing noises all day... it was so unbelievable how they deal with it.

So that was the sole reason I dumped HAs two decades ago. lol

most of the time headache is unrelated to cochlear implant, it could be chronic tension headache or migraine problems, it could be symtoms of hidden problems, check in with your doctor get CT scan your head, try couple medications to see if it help.
also doctor dont makes appointment for you or call to check up on you, you have to call his office to set up the appointment yourself its how it work.

It's MRI Scan. I heard about CI can't go into MRI Scan or CT Scan because it has metal in the bone in cochlea. I have no idea about CI will be able get in special scan. You might know.

People with CI cannot go through MRI scan. Especially the older implants. The current implants have the ability to remove the magnet (simple surgery actually).

CT scan is the proper way to go through to check the head and stuff, but it's not exactly great with soft tissues.

There is no metal in the cochlea. Just FYI. The only thing that is metal is the magnet and the titanium housing. All the metals is outside of the cochlea.

What if it's happen to you when you have a headache as migraine or accident? Will you able get in MRI to check your brain scan? I am curious.

Yes, now you can still go through MRI, ONLY as a LAST resort. Most doctors prefer that because it's more detailed and better for soft tissues such as brain matter.

The magnet of the CI can be removed through a small surgery, versus removal of the entire implant, then put back after MRI is done. It does take some time to do this, hence why it's used only as a last resort.

Cat Scans can still be used though.

I agree. In fact, I suggest that anyone with a CI regardless of age wear a bracelet or pendant that says "Cochlear Implant(s), no MRI." I have a Medic Alert bracelet which reads "Bilateral cochlear implants, no MRI, deaf and blind." I feel more secure having this information readily available to paramedics should I be unable to communicate during an emergency.

I used to wear HA, now no anymore since 1980s.

Healthcare stopped to cover the cost for HA batteries since they learn about CI techology in 1980s. Healthcare cover 100% for surgery and expenses for audio., spa, etc. for CI users. They hope that I consider CI then they will be happy to cover the cost for me but I choose to not do that because I beleive it's too old for me to have CI and training to hear the sounds development etc... It's good for children if they really want to consider to have one.

I prefer to spent money on important things than spend on expensive batteries...

The reason why HAs are not work for their kids for short time since kids receive CI. That is why. It's same with my cousin put her son HAs when he was baby for try. It was not work. She got him implants. It's her decide. She didn't want to be same as me when I was kid. She want her son to be good life with CI.. If I receive CI and my life will be GREAT for education and get HS diploma for SURE. I need to understand the environment of sound world and culture. I never understand the sound in culture because I'm totally deaf in my whole life.

See, that's the view I disagree with. If those parents think that the CI will give their deaf children a good life, they are supporting the audist views that being deaf is inferior to being hearing.

*nodding sadly* They influence hearing parents to beleive that their deaf children would act like hearing with CI...

You'll be surprised how some of us get batteries for free. I get CI batteries for free.

It's cheaper to buy batteries than it is to buy cigarettes.

First - You don't have to buy batteries for CI. All are rechargeables, so no money is wasted. (You mentioned that you rather save on batteries in your previous post).

Second - You're never too "old" to have implants. If you have the drive and the motivation, you will succeed. I heard someone who was in their 80's got implants and it was the best thing he ever had.

My best friend have been wearing CI for 22 years. She have no problem with her CI and she is happy. I never want CI because it scare me. I heard that story about CI.

Same thing, HA batteries can be free as well. There's a few people here that can just stop by their audiologist office and get batteries for free.
