Speaking of needles at the dentist's, the alternative is to go without novocaine which is what my Dad opted for most of the time for small fillings......yikes!
 
I wonder if anyone is as bad as my wife.
She goes white, starts to shake, cry and then throws in a panic attack for good measure!

I think I'll make an anti-needles club or something :P
 
I don't really like needles. But I'm used to dentist needles :giggle:

I hate IV needles though, since I can feel the liquid going through my arm

For small fillings I don't need anything... I prefer a little suffering to feeling numb all day long!!!! :cool2: I'm tough after all and not a wuss :giggle:

I always opt for no needle if I'm in for a filling.
The odd time it might be painfull so I would have to stop him
and get the injection.
But, normally..I do without.
 
I don't like needles either, but I can give blood no problem. I also want to get a tattoo eventually. & Yes I will post picks once I do.

I have 2 horror stories with needles.:

#1 I had a really bad migraine one time and I had to have a spinal tap. That wouldn't have been too bad, had it not been during rounds. I had at least 10 interns trying to place the needle in the small of my back. UGH! I can't watch any medical TV shows when they show that being done.
#2 I have a very high metabolism. So when I have dental work done I have to have ALOT of novacaine. WAYYYYYYY too many shots .

Don't like needles myself but I'm okay with it.

Just hate it when they have to stick the needles in my arms few times until they find the vein that'll spew out the blood.
 
I have no problems with needles.

No, I don't have any tattoos. But I have gotten shots before. I gave blood. I got flu shots. Etc.

When getting a shot, I don't flinch or tighten my muscles. I just relax as if I was already relaxed. Afterward, I don't really get any pain like most people do after they get a shot.

That means you're not drinking enough. Drink a glass of water one hour before you get blood drawn. It works for me every time.


Btw, I don't like needles, but it's no big deal.
 
I dont mind them..got used to them.

I have to admit...the better the phlebotomist (sp?) the less likely I will have a blown vein. One time I went to give platelets and I had 2 different people place the needles (it was a double arm procedure) and I knew the girl on my left arm blew my vein. I told the nurse too. She was acting like my skin was rock hard and stabbed the needle into my arm. And it's not like she couldn't find my veins, I am extremely pale. (LOL, just take a peek at the tall redhead in the AD NYC meet up thread)
 
I have baby veins and they can't use the adult sized needles on me. I can't give blood for that very reason. Seems really weird that I, being a large person (getting smaller) would have such small veins. And no, no matter how much I drink before, they still won't enlarge the veins. I drink 64 oz of fluid daily.

Wow. That's one odd quirk you have. Does your kids have similiar problem?
