Cloggy,

Vallee said it best, Merry Christmas!

a picture is worth a thousand words!

I see your motivation.

How so? just because she's smiling? What does that have to do with communication between parents/child and What does that have to do with language development? Let's not get carried away by the clever pictures someone paints for us. A picture is not a story, a smiling picture is not proof of happiness in choices what life has given to them either. Pictures can and do lie, quite often, in fact because it's not a story.

I've seen a picture of a smiling child who lived her life being abused, until someone sees the evidences on a child's body, then there's a story behind the child's smile, that's why I don't believe in pictures, I believe in evidences because with evidence it tells a story. :)

........ that's why I don't believe in pictures, I believe in evidences because with evidence it tells a story. :)

So we will just disregard you "Merry Christmas..." in you signature....

:)

:smiling: she looks really happy, such a beautiful little girl.

Shel why would it be so unusal for someone who hears normally to wonder how they are going to communicate with a deaf person? Not all deaf are able to speech read. Not all deaf are able to sign. Not all deaf can write sentences with correct structure, some to write more ASL then english. So yeah they are going to wonder how to communicate with a deaf person, espeically if they've never really had contact with one. I'd say just be glad they are curious enough and don't reject the idea outright. Which I'm sure some do.

Never said it would be unusual. I was just curious and was asking cuz I had never asked that question. That was all.

Lotte is beautiful. :)

Wow, you made a good point here, while this is so true because I was once abused by my ex husband and yes my sadness was hiding behind the smile. so I can see where you're coming from on this sis.

No, one realises very quickly that we were the experts. Doctors have limited knowledge, Deaf culture has limited knowledge, so the parent has to look for the info and filter it out.

You as a hearing parent of a deaf child does not make you an expert. I disagree, Deaf Culture does not have limited knowledge, When we’re children, our parents and guardians make our communications decisions for us, and I know many deaf people who learned ASL for first time and fell in love with it as well with deaf culture so therefore we have more knowledge than you as a parent do, Cloggy.

After implantation, doctors are out of view. They never gave advise about which CI to choose. Audies are experts, since they have worked with so many kids. We were recommended not to use sign language -

And you call those Audiologists experts who recommended you not to use sign language? Oh pleeeeasssse. Audiologists are specialists in hearing health care who provide diagnostic and only is expert on hearing testing, not the future of the deaf child's language development. They might offer their perspective what tool they would recommended, it does not make them an expert. If parents choose to go to the routine that an Audiologist gives them, those choices that can and will affect them for the rest of their lives, it will not make it my problem because you decide to go through them with the decision you make in your life with your deaf child.

I am an abused child. Believe me in there is no picture of me with a smile like that. It has taken years of counseling to get me to smile like that.

Didn't you post a picture of your boys infront of the Christmas tree?

I believe the evidence was in the post before the picture.

So every smiling child/children's picture someone post on here means what?

Didn't you post a picture of your boys infront of the Christmas tree?.

What does my boys picture in front of the tree has something to do with it's thread? I for one did not posted this picture on a thread only on my avatar. I don't use the picture to prove my point that my boys are happy with the communication or language they have. I don't see how is that related to Cloggy's picture of his daughter, He posted it to show us that this child is happy with the language and communication she has.

I don't see how you got your point across because you did not prove anything to me, If you are using this as a personal attack just to get your point across then it shows immaturity of your actions. I don't have time for this BS.

it is not a personal attack against you. It is a comment that I was upset over your comment with the posting of Cloggy's daughter. That to me was a personal attack against Cloggy. If you read the second comment about posting pictures.

How is that personal attack to Cloggy? Did I or not quoted my post to Cloggy? No, I did not so therefore I was not even doing any personal attack toward to him. My post was quoted to you, because of what you said. "picture is worth a thousand words, I see your motivation". My question is how can you see his motivation over a picture? and your answer is......I'll leave that up to you.

And you said you did not use it as a personal attack, You said you were upset at my comment therefore that means you did use that on purpose to personal attack me.

motivation in trying to raise his child and be a parent. I felt he showed me what type of parent he was by the answers to his questions.

Now, I have my answer. was that even hard to answer? gee! We wouldn't have gotten this far if you were just gave me a straight answer instead of throwing personal attacks around and if you were explained yourself more clearly on your first post.

i am very sorry for taken it wrong. I hope you accept my apology.

You as a hearing parent of a deaf child does not make you an expert. I disagree,
That's up to you. Except.... we are hearing parents of a deaf child that can hear... BIG difference.
Deaf Culture does not have limited knowledge,
WOW... THAT one you can explain....
When we’re children, our parents and guardians make our communications decisions for us, and I know many deaf people who learned ASL for first time and fell in love with it as well with deaf culture so therefore we have more knowledge than you as a parent do, Cloggy.
I fell in love with signlanguage as well.
But with all the expertise Deaf culture has about deafness, they have no clue about CI, about raising a deaf child that can hear....

And you call those Audiologists experts who recommended you not to use sign language? Oh pleeeeasssse.
I know what they mean, and I disagreed. They NEVER mean that you need to stop communicating with your child. They emphasise that speech should be focused on.....
Audiologists are specialists in hearing health care who provide diagnostic and only is expert on hearing testing, not the future of the deaf child's language development. They might offer their perspective what tool they would recommended, it does not make them an expert.
They handle in the best interest of the child. When the choice has been made to let the child hear and understand speech, as much exposure to speech is better than speech and sign. ... btw.. age of the child makes a difference as well....
If parents choose to go to the routine that an Audiologist gives them, those choices that can and will affect them for the rest of their lives, it will not make it my problem because you decide to go through them with the decision you make in your life with your deaf child.
Signlanguage can be picked up later. When the choice has been made to hear, focus should be on speech development.

Are you OK?
