Anyone here is considering about getting an CI?

we have been through this before in other thread which I mentioned "facial retardation" not "mental retardation" :dunno:

Well in that case, we are talking about facial nerve paralysis...a whole different thing altogether. Of course, there is a risk with that but they have facial nerve monitors to reduce this risk to almost a nonexistent level.

Good luck to consider to get an CI... Hope the journey will goes well for ya...

One of my real life friend is considering to get CI, so i will support her if she wanna to get it...

As for the first item, speech can get better and reading lips is actually easier if you can hear sounds to go along with it.

As for the second... *Scratching my head!* Something sure doesn't sound right here. The last thing a CI will do is effect anybody's intelligence. A CI has no impact on the brain itself beyond transmitting information to the brain. The surgery doesn't touch the brain either. I only thing I can think of is that you have additional issues like high blood pressure or a stroke risk. If you are reasonable healthy, then the risks are very small as in any surgery done on anybody which is why you sign those waver forms...

Doctor said that something that behind of the ears which isn't something that right for CI or support CI, I'm not sure what he mean by that. :dunno:

Where's Fragmenter? Didn't he have his evaluation appointment scheduled for around now? I wonder how it went?

Oh well, that is why they are called doctors! They are supposed to know these things. Thanks for the clarification.

Yes Medicaid will cover it..I don't think Medicare will but I think only cover the surgery not the devices etc.

You can check with your social worker to check that out.

Good Luck!

Medicare and Medicaid does cover surgery and devices.

I have posted this several times over the years.

As for Medicare, one needs to have both Part A and B enrolled.

With Medicare, one can enroll into a "Medicare Advantage" that Medicare works with several HMO insurances

:) It's this Tuesday. I'm impressed!

Our son's operation is just seven days away from today! Almost six.

It's been stressful for me but I'm handling it allright.

Awww it's completely understandable to be stressed...it's your baby boy! And having your own evaluation appointment just a few days apart it would be enough to make anyone's blood pressure get going. I really hope the operation goes smoothly and that your own evaluation yields some positive results. Will be thinking of your family next week!!

I know the feeling.
Look at it with anticipation, not fear!

I'll be thinking about the both of you.

Best success for your son's operation! He'll be just fine. I can understand the feelings of stress especially if it is your own child.

Oh okay. I'll have to contact them. But I don't have medicaid till I have to reapply. Probably later this winter I will reapply. I am not really in hurry to get CI though. :)

I want to get a CI, I just don't have any insurance so I can't. Hopefully one day I'll have the insurance and I'll be able to get one.

Just read the third page of this thread. Thank you, guys, I appreciate your thoughts and prayers!

I will be sure to update everyone when things aren't hectic anymore.

Keep us all in your prayers.

Wow! I'll be thinking of you as you go through this and hoping that if you decide that a CI is the right choice for you that there is no problem with Medicare funding.
