In fact if you do decide to go ahead with one it might be best to keep quiet about it until the day of surgery so that your mum doesn't pressure you too much or crow about it and it leaves you free to change your mind if you want to.
Also there is a chance you may not have the same response as your friend even though you are so similar.
Maybe you could go through an evaluation only and then think about it. It would give you an idea about how much you are likely to benefit from a CI.

I know that CI will be great benefits.. but I am like on seesaw board.. CI on the other side.. my mom on the other side.. just dont want my mom take wrong idea that I am doing this for her sake.. No, I am doing this FOR my sake..
Oh one more thing, since I lost more of my hearings, I always have fears surrounds me like someone behind me or in the dark or "quiet" it always creep me out.. for example... right now, I am working with my dog and the training, I have to go dog park to over come his fears around the other dogs, but I am afraid because I cant hear other dogs bark or snarl or go after me or dog.. so if i hear.. so i can be prepare.. or know that its there..

Yes, absolutely this has to be for your sake not your mum's sake. It would be a shame though if you wanted to do it for yourself but the only reason stopping you was your mum. It might be an example of another way in which she was still dominating your life?
You never know, it might be a sobering lesson for her if you decided and got a CI for yourself only. A lesson that shows her you are the one in control of your life and that you don't care what she thinks?
Eyeth said:Fragmenter- IMO, that's a poor reason for undergoing the CI procedure. I would counsel you and others similiarly situated, to consider the CI as a means of getting a chance to hear better, and not to show solidarity with your family members, or out of a certain family member's sake and/or respect.

Last week there was supreme court hearing on this case of a deaf man who recieved CI and his SSD got cut off because of this. The supreme judges found a old law that prohibits SSA from using "aided" devices as determination of disability, hence SSA lost BIG time! Now SSA is required to pay back checks to this guy plus some damages. So, don't worry about this anymore Thank god he got his brother as a very good attorney.

Although my right and left ears show very similar hearing loss, the tests they did on my speech comprehension showed it was the same with only my left ear as it is with both. (I knew this already but there's no telling docs or parents!). So I have nothing to lose with getting my right ear implanted, my life will be just the same if it doesnt work. Any improvement, no matter how slight, will be a positive in my daily struggle at work and at home.

1.) I dont talk that really good and I dont read the lips that really good, too.
2.) My doctor from Tenn who did process CI for me warned my mom that its very risk for me, I could be retard when I get CI. (It got me afraid)

we have been through this before in other thread which I mentioned "facial retardation" not "mental retardation"sr171soars said:As for the first item, speech can get better and reading lips is actually easier if you can hear sounds to go along with it.
As for the second... *Scratching my head!* Something sure doesn't sound right here. The last thing a CI will do is effect anybody's intelligence. A CI has no impact on the brain itself beyond transmitting information to the brain. The surgery doesn't touch the brain either. I only thing I can think of is that you have additional issues like high blood pressure or a stroke risk. If you are reasonable healthy, then the risks are very small as in any surgery done on anybody which is why you sign those waver forms...
