And what was the reason(s)? I was thinking about it for a long time and did a lot of research. Finally my dream came true! I want to hear more t hings in my life and I want to hear the kids' voice plus my husband's too. I can't live without sounds! I wore a hearing aid for years but my hearing has went down so with the CI, it would help me out alot. The good thing about CI is that I am still deaf and I turn it off anytime to have peace and quiet too. :)

I already have one as you are probably aware so I will give you my reasons why I went this route...

1) I always lived in the hearing world and I didn't want to give that up.

2) My family (wife and kids) are hearing and I wanted to still be able to hear them and communicate with them. I especially wanted to still hear my kids.

3) I can't stand the silence for long. I like sleeping without hearing but otherwise I like the noises. My 2 1/2 weeks between surgery and hookup drove me crazy at the end.

4) I wanted to keep my opportunities in life open...

I like the post cause bacically the same reasons applied to me. I really like hearing. :) I only had to wait one week tho and I still was able to hear with the other ear.

I want a CI because I am very curious, don't want lay on my deathbed with regrets and because I want to show my son I support him by joining him.

I'd get CI's but I am not sure Medicaid/Medicare will cover it since I am over 21...*shrugs*

^Angel^ and I are gotta try to go for one ourselves.

I know an adult CI user who was on medicaid when she was implanted. I would suggest you check with your state agency and see if YOUR state Medicaid program pays for it.

Never hurts to ask, right?

Good luck! :)

Wow, Congrats and Good luck! Have you guys started the processings yet?
Not yet, We need to do that in order to find out if we can be candidates for implant. ;)

Oh, that is SO awesome, guyettes! (or CIborgettes to-be)

Our deaf daughter got fitted with earmold and will get a digital hearing aid next month and her hoh baby girl will be fitted with an earmold at that time.

Our deaf grandson's undergoing a catscan tomorrow in preparation for his upcoming surgery.

Our deaf son, his father, will be testing for eligibility at the end of this month.

Wow, wow, wow! Plus you guyettes in this thread! :run:

(and wonder how many from the CI/HA threads will be going to the AD Caucus in St. Louis this weekend? I'd sure LOVE to meet all of you!

Peace out

LOL!

I hope y'all have fun at the AD Caucus.

I am not going cause I blew all my money on moving and buying things I need for the house and stuff like that.

Maybe next year.

It's so cool that the two of you can work through this process together - I'm almost jealous! :) Oh well at least that would solve the problem of one of you sounding male and the other not!

Fragmenter- IMO, that's a poor reason for undergoing the CI procedure. I would counsel you and others similiarly situated, to consider the CI as a means of getting a chance to hear better, and not to show solidarity with your family members, or out of a certain family member's sake and/or respect.

But if you read the first part of Fragmenter's sentence he also says that he is very curious and doesn't want regrets of not having given it a go. I assume that is because he wants to see what it is like to hear.

I would tend to agree with you if solidarity was his only reason for getting a CI but it doesn't seem that it is.

After my good friend that I grew up with, he was so excited and told me how it works that he just had CI.. he and I grew up together and have pretty much similar hearing loss and readlips and speeches.. we both know what sounds are like when we wore hearing aids... After he explained compare different between hearing aids and ci.. I get clear points.. that what i need to have ci not wear hearing aids because it always give me mirgrainte or headaches or eyesores..
but its going to be hard decisions because after all that my life with my mom who was drilling me to get ci.. and still she does..

I dont want to have ci yet because, i dont want mom thinks she WON but it isnt true.. after my friend had his, he was non stop talking about it and explained so much to me.. even he said that you can tell "which" kids voices... so i can find out who "start" the fights lol
it changed my mind.. :/ ugh.. hehe

Good luck you all who are going to have CI ! :)

I got something started!!! Im sooo looking forwards getting a cochlear implant.. Because I want to hear on the phone and be able to do more out in the hearing world.. There is a lot of things that Ive missed out but since Im in the hearing world all of my friends and family has helped me out a lot and Ive learned a lot what goes on out there. But I want to learn more and know whats like to hear out in the world. I would love to hear my families and friends voice and maybe even my boyfriend!! Im already planning on going to college and I would like to get cochlear implant before I attend college so I can catch up and learn just like the hearing students. Without needing the help I need without the CI. I want to be able to do this myself and don't need anyone's help.... Basically I don't really need help but I do at times in case if I miss out what someone is talking about stuff like that. Im planning on being a EMS and would like to hear over the phone or whatever they got to order to be able to hear what they have on the EMS! There is a lot of reasons why I want a Cochlear implant, I couldn't get it when I was a child because I got way too much hearing back then and untill then I just found out my hearing sucks and need to get a ci when I can. I would like to hear someone knocking on my door without someone beating on the door to order for me to be able to hear.. Just want to hear the sounds I've never heard... The most reasons why I want the CI is to hear my family voices! Thats #1 for me... But for those who are getting a ci I wish all the best for you and keep us with updated news.... Good luck!!

Difficult decision Doofusmama - don't rush into it or let anyone push you - it has to be the right choice for YOU. In fact if you do decide to go ahead with one it might be best to keep quiet about it until the day of surgery so that your mum doesn't pressure you too much or crow about it and it leaves you free to change your mind if you want to.

Also there is a chance you may not have the same response as your friend even though you are so similar.

Maybe you could go through an evaluation only and then think about it. It would give you an idea about how much you are likely to benefit from a CI.
