Parachute is the back-up. That would be more fun that way, because if you use jet-pack, and parachute in same trip. It is definitely better than flying the airplane, and jump off, and use parachute. Wonderful experience, but my heart is :Ohno:.
Before I ever took flying lessons I was hanging around the airport at 14. And the owner offered to let me go with him on his check ride. I saw them snickering and talking to each other, then they started doing crazy flight maneuvers designed to frighten this little girl. But I LOVED IT! I begged them to do more! The owner of the airport said, "I think we have a future pilot on our hands. " They did!
I skydive too and have lots of jumps out Casa 212 C-130 and yes even rear stairs of a 727 like DB Copper.
That's cool and a lot of adventures. My old friend loved to talk about his skydiving and he flew a small airplane. He lives somewhere in Texas. His name is Rob B. He told me that he almost killed himself that his parachute was jammed, and he immediately released an emergency parachute. He hurt his back at the last minute. He jumped hundred of times in the past. I don't think that he wants to do it again. He probably is too busy to take care of two little kids now. I lost his email address a few years ago. I don't know what happened to him. The last message in my email that he was getting a divorce - maybe not.
