[Anime] DVD Collection

No problem!

The problem with animes is that they are usually expensive and hard to find in most places. Best Buy has a good collection, but they're usually popular titles and rarely series. Media Play and Suncoast Video are usually good places for animes cuz their selection is HUGE! However, their prices are horrible! Sometimes, the prices are twice what you would find elsewhere. Jeez, I wonder what makes them want to charge us at twice the price?

When I was living in Rochester, I stayed away from Media Play as much as possible, but even if I went in, I would just look to find the anime titles that I want at a reasonable price.

For example, would you pay 22.95 dollars for an anime title like Plastic Little, which is only 60 minutes long, as opposed to a title that's at the same price for 300 minutes? I would go for the latter part even if it's a little over 20 bucks. Just be a reasonable consumer and set your limits to what you can afford and what you can get more for less of the money. That's how I did it, got some box sets at half of the price like The Slayers: Perfect Collection ( I think it's what it's called, it's the first box set in the series), I got it at half price. Originally it cost 140 dollars, but I got it for 70 bucks cuz this website was going out of business and got it dirty cheap :D Thank god mangas has dropped its price from 15.95 dollars to 7.95-9.95 dollars, making it affordable for us with our somewhat tight "anime/manga" budget ^_^;. I don't know about you guys, but my budget is kind of tight but I manage somehow lol.

Suncoast, Saturday Matinee and Sam Goody are all under the same company along with Media Play so you can see why the prices are the same in either stores. :D Like Babbages, Funcoland, Game Stop and this other store I forgot, it's not a popular store where I'm from cuz I have never heard or seen this store before, but they all merged into one store; Game Stop. I never really buy anything from a brick store, just online. You don't pay tax, only shipping and you get around 15 to 30% off, sometimes at half price off when you buy from an online store :D. Shibby!

 You get LOTSSS Collect of DVD! Magatsu  i wish buy more lots WHOLE AMINE DVD but $$$ it's cost between 22 dollar to 28 dollar at Media Play store if you buy set collect DVD it's cost more like 100 dollar or 67 dollar blah blah i was like dang!

I've own the entire "love hina" manga volumes (1 to 14) and just collected two volumes of "Negima!" but I haven't collected any volumes of "A.I. Love"...however, I read abit of it when I was in a bookstore one time and the drawings sure were different than the other series that he created...lol I guess it was his first, right? was "A.I. Love" as funny as "Love Hina" or "Negima?" personally, I find "Love Hina" to be actually more goofy and hiralous than "Negima" is.

I'm also trying to collect "Battle Vixens" as I just got two volumes of the series and will be getting more in the near future anyway.

oh, and I have one volume of "Gunsmith Cats", and it's pretty cool...lol but I know there's tons of volumes on "Gunsmit cats" but don't really have the time for collecting comics all the time like I used to...lol
and I also own about 4 books of "no need for tenchi!" which was based on "Tenchi Muyo!" one of my most favorite anime series when I was a teen but now I'm into the "ghost in the shell" series :P even some others that you proably didn't heard of..."caravan kidd" and "drakunn" which were created by Johji Manabe, who did his first series on "outlanders" and I haven't own that series either...they are published by dark horse comics so perhas you'll find them online at www.darkhorsecomics.com or something like that...it's not really my favorite mangas, but I enjoy reading them for fun. :)

well, I own mostly superheore comics like "spider-man", "tomb raider", "witchblade" and "danger girl"...but now I'm not really collecting any superhero comics at this time...I think mangas are actually more enjoyable to read, in my opinon.

hmmm...oh yeah, one of my stepfather's friend is in Japan and he married a japanese woman as well so one time he went back to America for a new year's eve party, he gave me a "poke'mon" manga printed in Japanese and even Japanese "Poke'mon" cards! so they would be worth a fortune someday. *whristles* it was pretty cool of him to do that. :D

well, I'm gonna try to get more mangas over the weekend since I should be getting another paycheck this thrusday. :P

Yeah you are right about Ken Akamatsu's A.I. Love You being his first manga story. He wrote/drew it and it look amateur-ish but the storyline is awesome, I like it very much. He re-drew the covers to fit his "Love Hina" style for all of us that love Love Hina. I really LOVE Love Hina (love love lol).

I have almost all of Gunsmith Cats, and they're good. Of course, one of the winning factors that got my interest in GSC is because it's based in Chicago, and the writer said he loves Chicago so much, he decided to do the GSC series in Chicago. He also did Riding Beans, a somewhat spin off anime movie of GSC and it's awesome but only 60 mins long T_T.

As for Pokemon cards, if you have a ultra rare card, or a foil card, it will be worth something in the future, but it depend on the audience and popularity of the card game. Like Yu Gi Oh and Magic: The Gathering, there are some Ultra Rare foil cards that go for around 2 thousand dollars. I'm like DAMN!!! O_O; But seeing as it came from Japan, it might be worth something later on, ONLY if you sell it here in the U.S. because if you try to sell it in Japan, it's probaby 100 yen to them... Of course I do not know which cards you have, but there are several card guides that tell you the value and if the value is high, remember to buy some card cases to shield the card from wear and tear! Keep it in mint condition and it will be worth $$$$ in the future heh

Yeah I stopped collecting American comic books because it's somewhat overrated and tooooooooo boring... Some of the comic books are too descriptive and gets into details on things while mangas are more like a light reading and provide the humor/drama/action that grabs the reader's interest. Right now I'm waiting for the comic books to go into golden age so I can sell them at a higher price than when I got them. I got like 12 boxes full of Amazing Spiderman, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, Silver Surfer, Daredevil and some more I can't really recall at the moment. I even got some dating back to the 1960's. I got one Amazing Spiderman comic book, numbered 300, signed by Todd McFarlane, the creator of Spawn and it's signed inside the book, on the first page! I read somewhere that if you have the artist/writer's autograph on the front cover, it drops in value immediately, but if you have it signed on the bottom page of the first page in the book, on the blank area of the page, it will increase in value three times. Anyways I'm going off the topic here so sorry about that.

Yeah... That's one biggest con about anime DVDs -- price. It is ridiculously expensive, I completely agree with you. Well, we can be grateful for that 'price' because in Japan, it will costs approx $50 and up for merely one DVD!

Sorry if it is dumb question but curious, do you buy anything thru online stores beside E-bay?

I never do. I usually find them cheaper in stores. I might find them online cheaper, but they're cheaper by a buck or two... and shipping & handling is three or four bucks more. As a result, I end up paying more through online. Heh!

Hmm, I end up saving more money through online than I do for local stores. Well, I tend to order more than just one DVD through online so that's way I can use cheap fee for addition item(s).

For example, two Last Exile DVDs for $40 with approx $8 shipping fee while it will cost us approx $65 if we buy it at Bestbuy. I save approx $17. That's what I realized when I bought the DVDs through online stores. But you are right that it will cost us more if we order only one DVD through online stores. Multi-orders is the key to save $$ or you can save the money until anime conventions comes up then you can wipe their shelves clean with your saving account :)

About Negima! the title made by the same creater, Ken Akamatsu, who did Love Hina, is already working on the anime series and it will use the same animator who did Love Hina, as well.

I've seen some shots of that early anime version but will try to find a way to show 'em online later. it looks pretty cool.

(found a site...but not in english but at least there are pics shown in the link below)

Can you fix the image url, Steel?

Anyway about anime, yeah I heard about it few weeks ago and plan to watch the anime version. So far, 1-5 eps are out already by few fansub groups. But... quality is ok-ok, I just.. wish the quality of it was at least close to Love Hina but it isn't. One of anime fans said, "coloring...it seemed totally flat".

Nevertheless, I still want to watch and see how it is. I am wayyyy behind on watching the animes lately... grr.

(just go to www.google.com and type in the search engine when you first select "images" and then type in "Negima!" and then you'll find afew links where they have images of the "Negima!" anime in some message boards that aren't even in English)

Damn thats alot of anime. I only have Shadow Skill, Ninja Scroll, Macross saga, Macross Plus the movie (highly recommend it guys), Macross Zero (this one too), Tekkaman Blade and thats about it. I think :o

Had to get Tekkaman Blade since I saw it on tv until they cut it off when I was a kid. Now this anime is hard to find since the american version called it Teknoman. Bastards!

Ahhh, I thought it sounded familiar but it's just got changed spelling. By the way does anyone like my signature?? It's an anime one :D

Cool signature. I haven't watch any Slayers series :( Even though I thought that was Lost Universe until Wolfboy mentioned about Slayers.

Macross Plus is pretty good to watch (especially Sharon Apple scene *drools at effects*) but some hardcore Macross fans hate it for some reason.

Wolfboy, nice collection :)

Steel, I saw the screenshots, it is cool but it still bothers me though. I think I need to 'break' from comparing Love Hina against Negima or move beyond that and keep my mind open.

(found a site...but not in english but at least there are pics shown in the link below) EDITED OUT THE URL

Next time, when posting a website from the google image search site, click on "Remove Frames" then it will give you the proper URL of the site. Or you can click on the "Below is the image in its original context on the page: (URL)". Either way works ^_^

Lol yeah Lina Inverse looks like the girl from Lost Universe but the costume gave away. I recognized the costume and knew it was Lina Inverse from Slayers. I have the first Slayers box set and it's funny!!! You should give that a try, people! If you are unsure of the box sets, give The Slayers the movie a try, it's funny as well!

BTW, nice sign you got there, Big Z! :D

I heard that Appleseed the movie is already out on DVD but I haven't seen one in stores yet...

have you? and is it a cel-shaded computer animated movie?
