Now more companies are starting to print manga books in its traditional Japanese format, right to left. If you see some from Tokyo Pop, Viz, Central Park Media/Manga and some more, you will see that they're converting the reading format to the Japanese way. I have a lot of 1st versions like Ranma 1/2, which is different from what Lovely have right now but it still do the left to right format. I do not know why Viz continues to do that while they do the right to left format on other books under Viz. Almost all or maybe all of the mangas under Tokyo Pop are right to left so almost everytime or everytime you pick up a book that's distributed by T.P., you will have to read from right to left and to learn how to do it is really easy. Maybe a little complicated at first like how to read the panels in proper order but it's not hard if you stick to the unique but not so unique format.
One more thing, all of the companies are doing the traditional shorten version (in size) of the books, we got the oversized books like the 1st version of Ranma 1/2 and Inu Yasha then after seeing how popular Anime/Manga is in America, they want to change the books so it will be affordable so they had to shorten the size of the books so it will be $9.95 almost every time you buy them. Shonen Jump, which is a sub division of Viz here in America (I think) release Ruroni Kenshin, Prince of Tennis, One Piece, Shaman King, Naruto and more at 7.95 per book.
Magatsu, a recommendation for you; After reading Love Hina or in the midst of reading it, I strongly recommend you read A.I. Love You and Negima, both done by the same creator, Ken Akamatsu. Yes I agree with you, GTO is hilarious and I got some of the DVDs.
