AIM problems.....

Doesn't it just block out ads? AIMLite 3.0 doesn't do just that, it also removes the unnecessary bloat.

Yes it does but it allows you to select whatever you want to keep.

Here is the snapshots of the AIM Hack AIM 6:

You can get the same way with AIM 5x on that site.

If you want tabs on your AIM 5x/AIM Lite to keep all chat in one place, this is possible by downloading Smilez 3.0 through this sit. You would need to set this up by going to My AIM bar.

What it looks like on mine:

Hmm will think about that... will wait till later on when i know for sure I am getting a new puter or so!

I've never had problem download and install AIM (5.5 and 6.0) with ZA Internet security. I just simply turned off ZA's IM AIM alert to shut up annoying warning message after installation. ZA should autoconfigure it's firewall and during AIM's installation, I made sure that ZA's pop up alert (on windows desktop where above clock area) on right lower corner checkmarked and clicked "allow" button to have full use on AIM.

I would recommend you to check the ZA's Program Control -- Program tab. and scroll down to see if you see any red "X"'s on AIM. Change to green "III" for full permission and all green checkmarked for Access, Security, and Email allowance. This might be the problem you are having.

Purplecatty..ok I have done what ya suggested to do to have AIM working properly.. I wonder if ya have encountered any problems where for example, after about 45 mins or so of being online for AIM, the true vector error pop up and teh red box with the yellow X mark appear and then the AIM is shut down somehow... same would go for if ya are in an aim chat room and the same problem appear... I wonder if ya have done something to fix that? Let me know please...

Sometime Uninstalling and reinstalling ZA may help solve problem. Be sure you unplug the Ethernet cable to prevent hackers from breaking into your "fragile" M$ Windows. Try find a "file" from ZA that stores as a backup for upgrade. Delete it and then reinstall ZA and plug back the Ethernet cable. This would reset it's configuration and IF you see Red or Yellow box pop up. Be sure to checkmark the radio button and click ALLOW. Let ZA's Antivirus/Adware do the job to catch virus or Adware regardless if you dont know what the pop up box show the program you are not familiar. It could be an AIM's sub-program that was needed for AIM. I've tried uninstall ZA and reinstall and poof it solve problems with my other softwares that I needed to get it running. Worth a try.

Northstar,

I didn't have problem with AIM when I left it running 24/7. Forgot to tell you to find where ZA's file after uninstalling ZA, It's in Program Files-- ZoneLab folder. Delete that folder.

Hey Sharky, that is what I have been trying to tell u abt that and right now I still have my ZoneAlarm Anti-Virus as well as firewall.....they works much better than just stupid ZoneAlarm Interenet Seructiry!!! They kept shut down my fuckie AIM too!!! same thing so finally changed it and now it works much better!! I have no plms for a long time since last Jan of this yar!!! U dont need that more of stupid shit Internet Seruirty!! But it is up to u! Just that Interenet Seriurty have caused the plms alot lately in the past with my pc all the time due to norton of course but did try that ZoneAlarm Internet Seruirty but did not work with AIM too!! So finally change to ZoneAlarm Anitviurs....as well with Firewall.....works like charm! Have not plms with it since! It was just too much stuff in one thing (ZoneAlarm Internet Seruirty: anit-virus, spyware, ...etc!! Too much!) So only two things is all I need and I do have popup block in my Avant and have also SpyBot, and Ad-Aware... that what I have right now... so far it runs better... as long as I had to be more careful that all that matter! Nothing me be that much! I am telling u truth! JUST DEPEND ON THE COMPUTER ONLY...can be different than others! That all...

Didn't you keep clicking "BLOCK" on pop up Box that show unfamiliar programs? It might have been AIM's sub-program that may needed for AIM to run. This may be the problem. Uninstall and Reinstall ZA Internet Security and if pop up box come up, checkmark the radio button and click "ALLOW" to shut em up. Let ZA's antivirus and antispyware take care of it. I have ZA Internet Security suite and it been very nice to me for a year. I use it on all 3 of my system and never experience any problems. I have AIM 6.0 and left it running 24/7 without any problems. I really hates McAffee, they missed viruses and screwed my system. Hackers HATES ZA cuz it won't let them break in. Google search may help to find particular problems.

Smart users have the lowest probability of getting hacked.
I'm a smart user and I don't have any firewall.
I have not been hacked since 1997.

What is this overblown "make sure you unplug your ethernet wire so that the hackers don't break into your system!" advice? Unless you have a computer stationed in a business environment or a large population hack-prone area, you really do not need to become paranoid about getting hacked. Hackers generally focus on prime targets: stupid people. So don't worry.

Oh wait...

Actually it sure does happen AT HOME!. I was reinstalling XP on my friend's pc and downloaded a SmileyCentral (with ethernet plugged in, XP's firewall turned on) for her cuz she asked for it. Suddenly her pc acting strangely.. Until then I found out it was trojan horse virus. I had to reformat and reinstall XP all over again but installed firewall and antivirus softwares then plugged in Ethernet then downloaded SmileyCentral again. There were no Trojan horse virus detected (ugh?). It solved problem. Same thing happen to my own PC.

I'm not panoid at all. I see the reality of it. I believe it's just that hacker hit "lottery" on several PC I was working on w/o firewall on and ethernet plugged. They DO have port scanner to find available port on XP (remmy that XP's "cheddar cheese" security) and M$ didn't bother close all ports until many companies sued M$. I even had a "headless and Armless" Printer Server (using little old 400mhz HP running on "stripped down" XP with it's native firewall running. NO monitor and NO keyboard/mouse. Self powered on after power failure) and it was hacked too. It didn't affect any of Client system in my house tho.

Apple OS and Linux OS no need to worry about it cuz it cannot reconize viruses and are difficult to hack. It would be very RARE if hackers know how to hack and infect both OS.

IF you don't believe me, I've read article about "Hacker's secret" that I downloaded from P2P. It turned out to be a fact and tools what Hackers uses and how to safeguard your system from Hacker's attack. It's real eye opener. Swiss company that tested XP and they found thousands of security holes equavalent to "swiss cheese". They will not reveal how they found it. M$ got into big trouble for it. The IT guy who work for Home of Gibson Research Corporation made an article on how hackers defeated XP's firewall very easily. He tested many firewalls and made a recommendation which is best. You can test your own firewall for fun of it.

I'm not panoid at all. Try using old hard drive and install XP with it's native firewall running and nothing else. Leave it running for full day or two and go online as you normally do just to browse online (avoid check webemail or any accounts that you would provide passwords for it). See if system got hacked.
Good Luck!

Yiffzer,

I too didn't use firewall and antivirus back in 1996 when I joined AOL and in 1999, my AOL was hacked by trojan virus couple of times. It stole my sn and password. I managed to blocked it cuz it was just a dial up (discovered email in "sent" folder before dialing up). I had to reboot the sytem and the virus had "downgraded" AOL 5.0 to 4.0. I contacted AOL tech and we worked together and found virus. I had to re-install Win 95 and everything else. I didn't even bother installing antivirus and firewall. Until 2001 then I had Win 2k on my newly built fast system and joined Road Runner broadband. 4 months later, my wife reported that the mouse pointer was moving around just like a ghost and was checking files. She paged me at work. I told her SHUT DOWN that system NOW!! until I get home. Cuz we had personal files stored in there. I decided to start using firewall and antivirus software. After I start using it. It stopped all those problems. Later on I finally installed XP Sp2 with native firewall with antivirus software. It didn't last me long and had same problem like W2k. I gave up trust on XP's own security and install Firewall software.

My system was hacked several times in past because I was downloading softwares from P2P often. I no longer store any personal info and I even left a funny note saved in file to tell hackers there's nothing for them to do in my system and who cares if they infect the system LOL. So that's why it's important to have good firewall and antivirus to protect your identity (eg... your online bank account and pswd, Credit card acct & security number, AIM SN and pswd ect.. that keylogger spyware can record your keystrokes and foward to hackers). Don't trust your own M$ XP at all.

Good luck
Catty
