Appauling accident happen near San Francisco,a balcony fell down resulting in the death of 6 Irish young people..
The poor kids having summer break in America and it ended so tragically...
 
if I knew how to do a link I would put it on thanks...I seen it on news just dreadful..one poor cop crying

You're welcome...I was curious...would be a terrible thing if more than one... well it's terrible just one...wondering if it was too much weight for the balcony....
Have to hand it to military and first responders they see things that would break a lot of people...

I posted a link too a few minutes before you. This has happen too many times , a balcony falling b/c there were too many people on it. There should some kind of warning posted on the deck saying how weight the balcony can support.

It seems like there should be...heck if elevators need them and they have cables why wouldn't balconies?
But how many people would listen to them...
 
Should be building regulations....they flying parents over now as I type three boy three girls been killed all but one was twenty one the other 22......it just appaulling something so tragic could happen..I thought States had strict building rulep

I might made some people be more careful but if there a party of drunk kids it might made no difference. The building was build in 2006 but the way the balconies were build did not look that safe to me.

We do have good building codes, though they are determined by various government (towns, counties, states). But they don't do any good for balcony's and decks if too many people get on them. When I heard about the accident this morning, I told myself there had to be too many people on the balcony for that many deaths and injuries. Of course, some of those could have been people on the ground getting hit by the falling balcony/people.

I have hung around and have too many family members in various construction fields... nothing is really built properly...
Everyone trying to save a dollar and make three ends up with crappy work and poor quality tools and supplies....

This so true ! My condo was build this way . This was originally apartment buildings and the guy building them wanted to get the building build as fast and cheap as possible so he could rent out apartments to made $$$!
I heard on the news tonight people are wondering if the wood has been treated. This would horrible if it was not , that mean there would wood rot and this weaken the wood.

The news said the fourth story but I counted the floors. It's the fifth story balcony that collapsed. :hmm:

It looks like there is an opening in front , I see no railings . I counted the fifth floor too. I just don't like the way the balcony is attach to the building , I would not want to go out on it. Yeah this a very tragic, the kids came here to work for the summer and now their parents have to plan their funerals . :(
 
I live 20 minutes away from Berkeley. I will check it out tomorrow. Yikes.
 
I HOPE something hits the fan after this appauling accident BUIDING RULES..It did not take long for people start blaming kids themselves, NO WAY.Down to shoddy work lack of care no building regulations

Ah, love your voice of reason instead of the all the "could have done this, should have done that."

You just can't protect the whole world from accident, got to use your judgement and take some care in life.

So sorry it happened to these people, condolences to their families.
 
annie I will stick with me could have done..i could say it unlikely to happen to young americans because they know the shoddy buildings and lack of regulations and not stood there but I wont say that because sounds rather like I pointing a finger at the people who run the place I most definatly not going do that....This earth quake zone I would thought do similar to japan minimise the maximise the safety for think that right way round
