A Thread About Absolutely Nothing! Part III

I am finally back home from visiting my friend's apartment. Turns out his Asus Windows laptop needed a MAJOR overhaui, because it needed to install Windows 8.1, which it didn't have, and also, he wasn't set to automatically receive updates, and the result was a 5-hour wait to completely update the entire system. It was worth it, though, as he shouldn't have to worry about that for a while. At least I got to spend some quality time outside, though, so not complaining.

Why do you always exaggerate things?

That is not an overhaul. It just needed updates that was not been updated in a long time.

It took longer than I expected it to. I was expecting maybe 2-3 hours of computer work, not 5. Then again, the updates were quite a few, so maybe that's not so surprising, but it had been a while since I actually used a Windows 8.1 device, since my own is unworkable, so that may be why I did that-- I hadn't had that experience yet with my own device before it got damaged, but I hope to someday repair it, if it's possible to.

yea it's a minor "overhaul". these updates simply take a long time... that's all.

major overhaul would be like HDD/RAM upgrade and taking bottom panel off to clean the whole thing.

HDD/RAM I haven't experienced yet, but I expect that someday I will. Just a question of when, though. As for the Windows 8.1 browser..... now that was a headache I could've lived without. It took a while to get that updated. Everythig else went smoothly, with the exception of that. Oh, and the Internet connection wasn't the best, either, so I suppose 5 hours with that kind of connection isn't totally unexpected. Ah, well. At least he's up to date now, and won't have to worry about it for a while, although I did tell him if any issues arise, to let me know, and I would try and come over, and I am supposed to stop by next week, so I'll ask to see if all is well then.

Finicky kitty. She wants to use the litter box, but not the one I put upstairs while I wait for the heater repairman. I have the basement door closed (where their litter boxes are) because of the oil on the floor and the strong smell down there. And she won't go outside (don't blame her) because it's freezing out there.

Now that I can take pictures again, I'll head to Des Plaines tomorrow as planned.

Walking back to the Red Line home, I saw this:

Quite the art piece in Rogers Park.
