A Prius with stuck accelerator glides to safety

The flintstone braking would be probably be more efficent. :P

The "emergency" brake is also called the "parking" brake. I've never used mine in an emergency, and only a few times for parking. I can't imagine trying to stop a 90 mph car with it. Yikes!

Don Esmond, senior vice president of automotive operations for Toyota Motor Sales, said all Priuses are equipped with a computer system that cuts power to the wheels if the brake and gas pedals are depressed at the same time — something Sikes was doing.

"It's tough for us to say if we're skeptical. I'm mystified in how it could happen with the brake override system," he said.

There is also my skeptic side that wonders if the guy might have set it up for lawsuit purposes. The car was stopped pretty easily once the trooper got involved. Not saying that is what happened but there is a little bitty dot of doubt

There are several times I had my parking brake on and didn't know it (My husband's doing).. and I was able to drive anyway

all lawyers do this... look at the person's past to see if they can come up something against them. It's really sad that it distract them from the real issue (if the car really does do this). It's only people like him who are brave enough to take to court usually have a history. The rest of us are scared to, or don't have the money to do this. Now, If he sued before and lied about it to get money, then I can understand.

FOXNews.com - Toyota 'Mystified' by Runaway Prius Case in California

There are some things that don't add up. Or that are strange.

I find it ironic the Prius driver was wearing a Corvette drivers club jacket....those two things don't seem to go together.:hmm:

does it really matter? He is more likely own an antique Corvette (or not so antique). Some people like antique cars and are part of that club. I know plenty of Mustang drivers club who drive different type of car on regular basic, but keep their precious/antique Mustang in the garage.

No it doesn't matter....it's just a small :hmm:

But there are a growing number of :hmm:s in this case.

Noted by finance companies as a shady businessman....:hmm:
Bankrupty:hmm:
$700,000 in debt....:hmm:
5 payments behind on this car....Big :hmm:
The problem he claims is not the problem others have....:hmm:
Car had already been taken in to the dealership....:hmm:
He didn't shift to N....:hmm:
Shady police report in the past....:hmm:

he said he was afraid to shift to N because he doesn't know how the car would react. I suppose being a corvette driver, he probably heard stories or experience it before.

One of my relative first car is a Mustang, and to this day, he still have it in his garage. He is part of mustang driver club because of this even though he drives another type of car.

They need to find evidences that prius does do this, if not, then it is a scam.

I know what he "said" but his word doesn't appear to be very credible

About the comment that he stopped when the cop came around, didn't he 911 for help and they told him to put it in neutral? doesn't calling 911 prove he did struggle with it?

Not necessarily

911 is an important part of attracting the media. Remember the balloon boy hoax?

well if you want judge someone because they have a history, fine, that's your problem. I just hope the court don't do the same thing without finding out if it is true or not (about the Prius). I'm sure they can duplicate the problem once they can figure out what triggered it, if he is telling the truth.

Perhaps you should read my posts again. I haven't judged this guy......I have just noted many fishy details.

FOXNews.com - Lawyer Rebuts Doubts About Runaway Prius Driver

I think someone has been reading my posts!

More things that make me say :hmm:

Brian Pennings, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol, said his agency's view that there is no evidence of a hoax is unchanged. The CHP does not plan to investigate the incident because there were no injuries or property damage.

Gomez said the best evidence that his client was frantically slamming the brakes is that the CHP officer smelled burning brakes and saw the lights on.

Gomez also represents the family of CHP Officer Mark Saylor, which sued Toyota this month in San Diego Superior Court.

Saylor was killed in August along with his wife, her brother and the couple's daughter after their Lexus accelerator became trapped by a wrong-size floor mat on a freeway in La Mesa, near San Diego. Their loaner car hit a sport utility vehicle and burst into flames

Hopefully a very strange coincidence
