A Motorcycle Thread About Absolutely Nothing!

I am sooooooo jealous!

Let's have an AD rally at Deal's Gap!! I would love to meet the bikers on this forum in person.

Maybe in the Spring?

There is an article here http://www.tailofthedragon.com/ that said a large number of deaf bikers from Tennessee visited.

it's so..... blue. I think you should add some "fading" green in there. I saw this in "PIMP MY RIDE" at hotel in Richmond and I thought it may be good idea for you to incorporate similar style for your bike.

I'm still trying to find a pix of this car I saw

Yeah ... you are right. It was very cool at first, but I feel like Papa Smurf now.

I am going to repaint it a different color.

I am thinking maybe a metallic dark gray with off white ... maybe MS paint will help me decide.

edit - maybe something close to this?

I have had a GL1100 for quite some time sitting in my garage. I am wanting to turn it into a bobber. The problem is, the engine does not turn freely. When in neutral, the back tire is locked up, the belt covers are removed and the drive bolt is locked up too.

I have been told to just knock the pistons into place to get the timing tdc, and I have done that. I was also told that once ignited, the engine will blow out whatever is locking it up ..... and .... I simply do not trust what I have been told and have some serious doubts about that.

Does anyone have experience doing this? Should I just replace the motor?

THIS is what I am going to eventually do to it:

Have u checked the shim measurements in the cam? I saw my friend adjust one and it solved the motor running smooth and fixed. But it was on a Yamaha not sure if same w/your model. Good luck

dang... that pix looks sweet and serious! I'm trying to remember a name of this guy who had exactly same bike as the pix so that I can forward you his contact info. He restored/customized it himself and I think he's from NY.

btw - what year is it?

There is an article here Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, motorcycle and sport car two lane tourism serving Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, Cherohala Skyway, Moonshiner28, Devils Triangle, and Six Gap North Georgia. that said a large number of deaf bikers from Tennessee visited.

Most if not all those guys that did the Deal's Gap also went to the annual pig roast in Williamsburg, VA that week-end.

It is a 1981 - I am going to save $ and just get a new motor for it. I am going to restore it peice by peice - its gonna take a while.

:Ohno:: Tonight, My friend left work on his yz1 and it went flat tire on him in the rear, he texted me and told me about it. I got off work and went to meet him to help. We took off the wheel and found the hole and used a plug and patch. he was all dirty from working on the tire and bike. i went into my bag and pulled out (ben gay) told him this would help get the grease off. Squirted a good amount and he started to rub his hands while i poured water from a bottle, :giggle: i was holding it in really hard not to laugh and he looked at me and started to look at his hands and i bursted out laughing so hard :laugh2: he then laughed and said what the &%#$ did u give me.
My little prank on my riding buddy :D:naughty:

Haven't been here for several months now.

Anyone miss me?

Looks like several hearing members are banned. Did any deaf members get banned?

I have some good news. I have been talking to someone who has a GL1100 interstate for sale. It was dropped on one side and has a cracked timing belt cover and cracked valve cover. It also needs gauges and signals on the side it was dropped on.

So ..... The good news is, the motor turns over on it, and my "parts" bike has all the replacement parts I need to do the repairs. He is also willing to work with me and hold the bike until it is paid for. The price is very reasonable.

Last week, I went to look at a fully dressed GL1100 and the asking price was $2500. The rubber was dry rotted and the brake fluid container on the handlebars was dry rotted and leaking. The dropped GL1100 is being sold for much much less.

Looks like I will have a bobbed wing for Christmas ...... What I have always wanted. It will be a fun winter project.

I'm willing if the right date is proposed! It is about 5 hour ride from here. Leave the day before and stay overnight.

I am trying something a little different on the Virago. I am using a darker blue and a metallic orange - it isn't finished yet.

I am just putting the base coats on, will mask off and make the lines straight then pinstripe/metal leaf.

And yes .... that is a different tank. I am looking for Virago emblems to place on it.

Well as I am getting ready to go take the course with Rider Edge soon, I am having a problem picking a helmet since I have to bring one to the class. I would rather take the test with my own helmet IL be using to ride.

Problem is I use hearing aids(HA) ... BTE (Behind the Ear) I am trying to find a helmet that can fit my big head with my HA on. But then a lot of questions are raised if I have my HA on or off.

I have been doing my research around and apparently there's bikers that have gotten hearing loss from the wind speed. some wear ear plugs under their helmets. This I did not know, so how worst can my hearing get wearing my HA.

So I realize there's 2 options.

If I wear my HA.
How expensive would the helmet get to be able to find the right one to fit with my HA on.

Is it worth having my HA on, I am assuming I would still wouldn't hear anything due to the engine noise, exhaust noise, and wind speed.

Would my hearing get worst hearing the wind speed?

If I don't wear my HA.

Would I be able to pass the course?

It would be a lot easier to find a helmet trying it without my HA, wouldn't have to worry about the consequences of wind speed due to my hearing lost. But would I be able to notice when I am getting pull over?

My wife and I take MSF and passed without problem. You don't really need HA. That's all you heard is strong wind and engine noise. Use your eyes. Trust me, my instructors were talking about visions all times. Never said anything about hearing that we know so far.

I prefer full-face helmet over open face helmet due bugs, tiny rock, etc. I knew few of my friend got scar on their face from tiny rock and other one of them almost get out of control when "big bug" hit his face so hard.

This is just my personal observation as i am not deaf:

I use a full-face helmet all the time. My hearing is greatly reduced, so I tune out almost everything on purpose. I do not have a tach or lights to show which gear i'm in (except neutral). Rely solely on feel to shift.

Using my ability to turn my head and continually view the mirrors and....plan ahead of possible problems, I do not need to hear. I am focused.

I own a half-helmet. The wind and noise breaks my concentration.

One of my good deaf friends is a carpenter. Wearing a hard hat and HA, it squeals much of the time. To prevent damage, he removes them when working due to sweating. The same would probably happen in a helmet. Even with vents, my hair and face are wet with perspiration much of the year.

Steinhauer and Jiro are correct. Try it. :hmm:

Dual fans are better than vents. It's works great to me.
