A Motorcycle Thread About Absolutely Nothing!

Another PGR mission today and tomorrow. A retired Navy Master Chief/retired sargent from Charleston county sheriffs department passed away.

This evening a group of us met at the funeral home for a flag line from 5-7 p.m. in a nearby town about 15 miles from our home. Inside the funeral home were two deputies in uniform with white gloves on each side of the casket. They rotated deputies by a slow face to face with salutes exchanged.

The son (also retired Navy and a biker) came outside and thanked each one of us for being there for his dad. He recommended the PGR to his mom. He was not sure she would be receptive, but when he asked her, she was excited about the idea.

Tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. an escorted procession will leave from that same funeral home to Beaufort National Ceremony where there will be a service with full military honors. That part of the ride will be about 90 miles.

better tender your battery overnite!

yea you know - unexpected or sudden rain shower. if your button and wiring aren't "rain-proof".... it's no good. it's dangerous.

A switch like this... it's no good.

You'll need a weatherproof/waterproof/sealed (whatever it's called) switch like this...

Example Description of waterproof switches

Cherry - Waterproof Rocker & Pushbutton Switches | DigiKey

The waterproof switches I showed you above can be drilled into console but for me - I think it's troublesome because you have to make sure the hole you're going to drill is the right size or positioned correctly. It's one-time only so once a hole is made... it's a hole forever  maybe put a sticker on it to cover it up in case you changed your mind to reposition the switch.

There is a switch designed for motorcycle which you can attach it to handlebar.

Yes I know. Right now there are no local places that have those switches.
Thanks for some ideas.

oh you'll have to order it.

but.............. you could try boating store. Boat switches/buttons are waterproof.

After the ride tonight with the Garmin and colored LEDs flashing and, working on the Monster LEDs, I immediately put on the tender.

I had to put tender on again last nite. My console was flickering and my engine RPM was erratic. I knew my battery juice was low. dang cold weather + heated gear *grumble*

Remember, if you didn't have something to consistently worry about, :Ohno: life would be boring.

Here are the lights installed.

Today the PGR escort went well to the Beaufort National Cemetery. Police bike escorts through Charleston.

The way back was totally different. A main group left for a funeral line in Summerville. 70 miles away. About 3-4 of us were not going so we went our separate ways. I stopped for lunch at a BK. While I was eating, a customer came in and tapped me on the shoulder. Asked if I knew about a biker down across the street.

I said no. So I got up and went out and saw another PGR rider on the street. The paramedics and police were there. Another member rode up and we tried to answer as many questions as we knew. His HD was banged up. Apparently a driver came out of the Pizza Hut across the street right in front of him. He hit the driver's side.

He was alert, talking and arms/legs were moving. He was transported to the hospital. I gave the EMT his clothing to take along. The police officer said they would call for a tow truck to transport his bike to an impound lot.

I called the ride captain in Summerville to let him know what happened. Right now I am waiting for a return call to see if the hospital would tell him anything since he is not family.

Then, as I was heading out of town my videocam came out of its bracket, hit my windshield and landed in the median. I picked it up. The glass protecting the camera was broken. When I got home I tested it. It works, but I'm not sure if it is still under warranty.

Finally, five miles from returning home, the bike became very loud and loosing power. I limped to my dealership at 40 mph. Left it. An hour later they said it was fixed. A sparkplug worked loose. $40 repair.

Our injured biker called the ride captain back tonight. No broken bones. :) He said the woman looked right at him and still pulled out. He aimed for the rear of her car but, she then panicked and stopped. He hit her rear fender. His wife should be there by now. He is expected to be released sometime tomorrow.

aw crap... I forgot to let you know that you should always tie a camera to bracket in case mount fails (which always fail). People usually use line for fishing cuz it's strong and invisible. Whatever the string you use, make sure to check it from time to time because of wear n' tear from weather and sun UV.
