A Motorcycle Thread About Absolutely Nothing!

IMO - you definitely do not want to skimp on cheap saddle mount. My mount was expensive yes but at least it's "bulletproof-tough" for life and I can fit handful of different saddlebags on it - both hard and soft bags. It is able to handle abuses and crashes. My mount has about 1" clearance from dual exhaust pipes which is why my saddlebags have heat shield.

so things to consider:
1. if your saddlebag is made of nylon or polyester or low-grade Cordura but no protection from heat (aka "heat shield")... then it's utterly useless. it will just melt away
2. I avoid saddlebag made out of nylon/polyester because weather + sun over time will destroy it in short time. It will make the material very brittle so make sure it's made of high-grade material like 1000+ Denier Cordura
3. saddlebags especially for cruiser bike - it's best to go with leather. it's tough and cool! you can never go wrong with that! but of course - you have to maintain the leather which is quick and easy.

some pix of cruiser + saddlebag I found....

Yup,

I rather Leather than nylon.. I was browsing in Ebay. I found several used bag and it's damaged or missing and they're asking $150 for it!! No thanks! New one cost $300 and up. The one on Ebay that I posted which is $60 for everything and made of "Tough Buffalo Leather". It's nice to have everything but would it last?? I dunno. The bracket to support Saddlebag would be necessary. I agree that hard leather saddlebag would be the best option because of crash protection and long lasting. I do not want metal, fiberglass, or plastic saddle. Because it can get chipped, scraped or cracked. Leather are easy to take care of.

they have audacity to ask for $150 for damaged bags.... :ugh:

Whatever it call since we don't learned enough about Carb from class since they are outdated.

EFI/SFI FAILED - no towing need, you still drive to home.

TBI FAILED - Towing need, you have to waiting for an hour or so and pay towing's bill.

Which you like better? I pick EFI/SFI over TBI for daily drive and I don't care about how easy to repair.

wow, well, did you read my post # 1041 about the EFI ? I found out the EFI fump sentence was wrong spell word. My apology for mis spell. Correct spell is EFI fuel pump. Anyway I point "EFI/SFI FAILED" that you mentioned, is no towing need, you still drive to home. Is this correct? Ok my question is if EFI's electric fuel pump failed [note: TBI use electric fuel pump] or computer failed. How can you get parts for this EFI bike? I believe the EFI parts for the modern bikes is hard to find cuz they are special order parts that mean you have to wait to get them in weeks. How can you go home??? IF I have my old HD maybe James Jesses bike, broken down on the road, found flooded carburetor, what do I do?? Fix stuck float or needle in valve (open stuck) by rock the carburetor with a boot (like HD boot) to free the float or needle.
If flood stop then I will have a great trip to the Daytona Beach for bike party.
One sad is I dont know how to bike HD? You understand my picture?

Well, Don't mean that will happen to EVERYONE have same problem with ECU or fuel pump or happen problem again and again for each month something like that.

Again, EFI is don't need maintenance unlike Carb for daily.

Who carry a needle for everyday? :eek3:

Check it out a video about James Jesse

James Jesse needs truck with trailer to follow him at long trip. If something wrong then just pulled out then walked to truck's trailer for tool to repair this motorcycle.

The flooded carburetor is very dangerous due serious fire hazard if fuel spills out of the carburetor onto a hot engine. Right? I prefer safety over easy repair.

Skip to 2:25 and I feels sorry for dude lost his motorcycle after burned.

If you want carb then you have to carry the fire extinguisher with you all time and don't forget to check the fire extinguisher's expire.

lol... that kind of bike is not designed for long-distance travel. and plus - he's a celebrity. he never travels without an entourage.

YouTube - Yamaha R1 crash

Because it got crash and it's probably damage fuel line or something then it got fire. That's why it said "Yamaha R1 crash" I see Yamaha R1 have heavy scratch and thick dent at one side. So the driver's fault for crash. No way to know what's happen and I like to watch whole what cause.

Clasic norton motorcycle just got fire without crash, just happen during ride. It's very danger to me.

Since deafsmogtech talked about James Jesse's bike so I pointed out. :dunno:

What you carry a item for everyday? Just wonder.

oh gosh.

first aids kit, maps, Sharpie marker, bunch of quarters, ziplock bags, headlamp, tool roll, nylon cable ties, tire gauge, duct tape, cable lock, helmet visor, window cleaner spray, towel, straps, and.... I think I'm missing some more little stuff.

the items above is for "commuter mode". For long-distance ride - I attach big saddlebags so I carry extra fuel tank, tire repair kit + air pump, rope, rain gear, DuPont spray + WD40, battery charger (depends), fire extinguisher, and... what am I missing? :hmm:

:dunno: oh yea - I never ride without pocket utility knife here in my pocket.

point is - he would be able to fix his bike like Jesse Jackson's on the road without having to call tow truck and wait few days if they have to order in parts for EFI bike since it's easier to fix carb bike.

Jesse Jackson don't need call tow truck because he already have truck with trailer follow him around.

Nice, What helmet visor looks like?

Are James Jesse, Jesse Jackson, and Jesse James all the same person?

TCS and I each have one clear, and one mirrored shaded (for sun).

a lot of people ride with clear visor plus sunglasses (assuming they don't wear prescription glasses or contact lens). Easier to deal with that way without having to carry 2nd visor.

I need to get a prescription sunglasses but it's kinda pricey.
