A Brand New Notebook Computer!

The best notebook for me (economical) might be the Compaq Presario C700t. It is less than $700 (w/o shipping) and has all I really need:

Okay Pacman, I will follow your lead. Which Toshiba notebook would you choose (under $780)?

I am a super dork. LOL!!!!!!!! I take my notes in pocket when I walk out the door. When I am waiting for something/one, I review my notes (on index cards)...what a geek. So with the recorder I can cast those index cards away. I just plug in my earphones and I am set.

Wow! What a nice benefit for hearies! :D I see people talking in them sometimes, lol.

Will you need a transcriber afterwards? Or just listen again to remind you?

Does this help you take notes in class? Can it record your professor talking?

All those things my friend. :)

I do have good news- no more physical index cards for me. I can digitize them now. My future notebook will be used as much as my iPod is used now. I use my iPod so much it is held together with rubber bands- all worn out...too much daily abuse.

Holy Moly! Thanks for that link! We definitely need something like digital flashcards here at the office. Can't wait to bring up at the next meeting.

And that's amazing about your little recording device... Gives me ideas also. . . Heck, I could even use one to record meetings and then give to my transcriber, or hire TS Deaf services.

Thanks very much Aqua. :ty:

My dad (who was paranoid), used to carry a voice-activated recorder in the breast pocket of his suit jacket all the time to record every conversation.

This is none of my business but what reason would he have to be paranoid?

I have my eye on this one:

It's not expensive and it's an HP. What do you think?

I like it too. Lately, I have been looking at different laptops and I couldn't decide on which one to get until I came into this thread. Now I am thinking of getting this one :)

I would go with Dell or HP or Macbook.

All have excellent support service.

I have a Toshiba that I use for school. I got it new last year for under 900$ and it's worked very well ... I love it and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a laptop. It also has built in WiFi which is really a must have for on campus !!

I have a Dell desktop and home and really like it as well ... I've heard a number of complaints about HP- because they're so proprietary on much of their components ... not sure if that's still the case.

HTH
What are you taking at school ?

Almost all of my computers and laptops are HP. This is interesting, and how do you mean about this?

There used to ( might still be) issues with HPs in that the components were so integrated into the motherboard that you could only use HP brand replacement parts, for instance if your desktop sound or video card (onboard) failed or you wanted to use a different one it was either unstable or didn't work ?

I think this is mostly gone now ... but it was a stupid problem for a while. I know personally there was issues with being able to use HPs for pro audio/video work for a while due to this, and some other "oddness" ...in all fairness it was a number of years ago - so I'm not sure if it's the case anymore - and I'm sure it's actually a non-issue for a "school work" computer ...

On a side note: I my brother will buy me (gift) a digital voice recorder next week. This is it:

My brother and I just won two of these models on eBay. They each cost (new) around $80. We purchased both new recorders for $102. I will keep one for myself and we will sale the other on eBay. Good deal. :)
