definitely a case of hate crime.
She was fighting for her life, not her money.
I am shocked at what you are saying. That is not nice at all. You could have got penalty for saying that. You are no better than the attempted murderer.
As for Babyblue, I thought she might have fire only once to scare him or stop him. You are right that she might have hit someone in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart store. That is scary, but there was no report of being hit at the bystander. I am very glad that she is okay. Go, Granny!!!!!
Yeah...and a .45 will stop a lot of innocent people in that parking lot too! 5 Shots and they all missed! And he was right in front of her! So she had to be "shooting wildly"...So...."what if" she shot an innocent person? Who was coming to her aid?
Forget the "what if's"! She had no training for a gun, she was "no match" for the robber/mugger at her age! In this situation, giving up the purse would have been best....and let the people who came to her aid overpower the mugger in order for her to stay alive.....NO amount of $$ in your purse is worth getting killed over....
Unfortunately with crimes going on in this day and age is due by and large to drug addiction. People who are addicted to drugs will commit crimes to get more drugs. Drug dealers don't care where the money comes from as long it fills their pocket.
This war on drugs is costing the lives of innocent people. So I suggest the following ways to eliminate this problem and save lives at the same time.
Legalize all drugs and tax them in the same manner as cigarettes and alcohol. Hey if people wanna slowly kill themselves doing cigs and alcohol, they should the same with the drugs. In fact, they're all drugs anyway. So let's tax all the idiots with all they're worth before they make a trip to six feet under.
This way, legalizing all drugs will put the drug dealers out of business and place the drugs under a controlled environment and crime will dramatically be reduced.
Yiz
Yes, the police did catch him.I'm glad the turn out was good for this granny.
Did they ever catch the guy that committed this crime?
Stephen Prickett is his name.Wal mart parking lots are loaded down with cameras. Has anyone released a clip or a screen shot of the guy that did this?
So perhaps someone can identify him?
You don't understand what this person trying to convey, even after this person tried to explain it to you again again. I understand and agree-the government will not interfere with our rights to arm ourselves as American Citizens.
Go Granny and any other citizen protecting themselves and not waiting till it's too late for the government to step in to help.
Rather a rude assumption. I see, from Bebonang's posts that she does understand. She simply thinks that sarcasm or not, it was uncalled for.
Stephen Prickett is his name.
Stephen Prickett, 29, is charged with attempted murder, three counts of aggravated assault, armed robbery, kidnapping and attempted theft of a vehicle.
During the incident, police said, Prickett struck the victim, 82-year-old Mary Doutt, in the head with her own cane several times as he attempted to rob her.
That guy was bad news.he had additional charges pressed against him too:

Pepper spray are ineffective at close range, pepper spray will only serve to aggravate the aggressor even more.
Untrue. There's no proof of that claim.
It literally blinds you and makes you lose your aggression... you'd wither in pain that would seem forever. The pepper in it is extremely potent.
Tell that to someone that is hopped up on dope and doesn't feel pain.... Just rage.
Some have been taised, sprayed, sicced on by K-9 and even shot. Individualy or combined. Has no effect on them. When a person is so high and hopped up on drugs they feel no pain and are lost in their own little world. Basically they feel invincible.
So I disagree with your statement.
They came to her aid AFTER they heard the gunshots.Nothing was said if the robber was "hopped up" on drugs...and yes, the robber was trying to steal her purse and her car. He wasn't just trying to beat her to death..he wanted that purse, along with her car keys....
And Walmart employees held the man down until the police got there, so she did get some help....there are some good people out there....
Where did you read that he hit her only because she wouldn't give up her purse? The only quote from the perp that I've read was that he wanted to kill her.Granny was "no match" for the man!...At her age, she would have been better off to let the purse go, instead, she kept fighting and he kept hitting her with the cane.
Where did you read that? Link please. There were many eye-witness in that parking lot. And the police were close by.
You know that for a fact?Even if he had gotten the purse and the car, he would have not been able to get very far.
Where did you read that she had no training? She put her life in jeopardy, and others also by shooting wildly, 5 shots, and still missing the robber. It could have been a small child, even a baby, who got shot instead! She had "no training" with a gun, which is deadly! That's my point....
How do you know for sure in this situation that the guy would have quit beating her with the cane if she gave him her purse? He said he was going to kill her, no ifs ands or buts.I would rather give up my purse, than to be beat to death with a cane.....I value my life and others in this situation.

Clerk shot, killed during robbery at convenience store
A man shot a clerk during a robbery early this morning at the 7-Eleven convenience store in south Kansas City. The clerk later died of his injuries.
The fatal shooting occurred about 1:05 a.m. at the 7-Eleven near East Bannister and James A. Reed roads.
The clerk was shot at least once. He called 911 to report that he had been shot in the abdomen.
When police arrived, they found him lying on the floor suffering from the gunshot wound. The clerk told police that the suspect entered the store and demanded money.
The clerk told police that after he gave the suspect money, the suspect pulled out a small handgun and shot the clerk.
The victim was transported to a hospital where he later died of his injuries.
They came to her aid AFTER they heard the gunshots.

Where did you read that she had no training?
Did you know that even with lots of range training, trying to aim and shoot while being beaten down with a cane is not the same as shooting at a stationary paper target? Even police firing at a suspect don't always hit the target. The police get lots of training and practice on the range but that doesn't mean they will always hit the moving target.
How do you know for sure in this situation that the guy would have quit beating her with the cane if she gave him her purse? He said he was going to kill her, no ifs ands or buts.
This person did exactly what the crook wanted. He gave up the money but was still killed.

Exactly. Nothing new in this story. There is nothing that says she wasn't trained, that the perp wouldn't kill her if she gave up her purse, that the police were near, or that there were many witnesses present.SIERRA VISTA — More charges have been filed against a man police said tried to rob a woman but ended up having a handgun pulled on him by the would-be victim.
Stephen Prickett, 29, is charged with attempted murder, three counts of aggravated assault, armed robbery, kidnapping and attempted theft of a vehicle.
At 3:12 p.m. Friday, police got a report of shots fired in the area behind Walmart, 657 N. Highway 90 Bypass. Officers were in the area and able to respond in about a minute, said Tracy Grady, Sierra Vista police public information officer.
During the incident, police said, Prickett struck the victim, 82-year-old Mary Doutt, in the head with her own cane several times as he attempted to rob her.
Doutt took a handgun from her purse and attempted to shoot Prickett, police said. He wrestled with her for the gun, police said. At one point during the struggle, Prickett pointed the gun at Doutt, Grady said. No one was shot during the incident.
Grady said Prickett also planned to steal Doutt’s car. When officers arrived on the scene, Prickett was being held down by Walmart
employees.
Doutt, who received injuries to her head and right arm, was taken to the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center for treatment, but was later transported to University Medical Center in Tucson. Hospital staff said Doutt was in fair condition Saturday.
Prickett remains booked in the Cochise County Jail with a bond of $500,000, authorities said.
