you guys are being awfully sensationalist. this isn't chernobyl.
Where did I say something good would happen?
Where did I say nothing bad would happen?
I said these speculations and some crappy reporting is sensationalist.
I am interested to see how this may effect wildlife, though...and fish.
huh?
Here's a link. In Japan, fears of a threat no one can see
"In Japan, fears of a threat no one can see"
WOW! SCARY TITLE! The article basically says some people are scared, but oh wait...
I didn't say I was more concerned about the fish than I was humans. I was curious about what would happen from an economic standpoint...because I teach it in high school.
I do care about human life. I do care about Japan. It's actually one of my favorite places to study regional history. I'm just not going to panic about an unlikely nuclear meltdown right now. That shows maturity, not immaturity.
When this stuff was first posted, it was all speculation. If something changes - and it's dependent on so many factors - then I'll adjust my concern accordingly.
When this story first broke, everyone was like, OH MY GOD! ITS GONNA HIT THE US! runnnnnnnnn and what did we get? WHAT CRAZY BIG SENSATIONALIST NEWS HAPPENED?
Some big waves.
roflcopter
I feel like people what their to be a big nuclear fallout so we can all revel in the drama.
Look at the news! It's so sensationalist. pfh already pointed out that even credible news sources were getting a little bit drama-happy.
Big news is big news, yes. But I'm still waiting for the headline that says "nuclear fallout unlikely". but maybe that doesn't get people as jazzed.
Thousands just died in a round of earthquakes. Does anyone seem to notice that? No...it's like people are *hoping* for something else to happen. I'm not saying people here are hoping, but no, right now my concern isn't about an unlikely nuclear fallout, it's more about people who are currently stranded, hungry, injured, sick, etc.
i just had a giggle.
will you marry me?
yeah, cause that Saturday night pizza eating is keeping you SO BUSY.
there is the possibility of a second large quake. that would worry me.
That Faux news report was repeating what a Japanese agency said.
Tsunamis happen all the time. So do earthquakes. Most of the time, nothing happens.
also, that second explosion was a hydrogen explosion. but reading that headline, you'd think that a nuclear explosion just happened and a tsunami was on its way to wreck more havoc.
and yet...there was no tsunami warning.
Also, where does it say that the earth's axis shifted ten inches? We don't even know for sure how many feet Japan was "moved" because the water hasn't receded yet.
Your reporting is not to be trusted!
Like mapmaking or driving your car? The first, a pain. Global Positioning Systems are always updating and changing, though. The earth is constantly moving - and I don't mean just spinning.
All I've done is point out the fallacies in some of the news reports. Mentally, I think the world is prepared for the WORST WORST case scenario...but I'm not going to wrap myself in tin foil. Worry is not on my emotional radar, no.
Wait - what good is a fallout shelter now? The effects of major radiation poisoning go long beyond a week or two.
It would make sense to worry more about jihadists falling from the sky...but it makes even more sense to worry about being hit by a drunk driver.
There's a difference between "worry" as in omgomgomg and anxiety (not my thing) and "worry" as in "be prepared for" because you perceive a possible threat. IF the unimaginable and illogical happened and radiation in HARMFUL LEVELS hit the west coast, what am I going to do about it in Denver? What are you going to do about it in D.C.? And if the west coast were in danger, I'm sure we'd be aware.
You Can Stop Worrying About A Radiation Disaster In Japan -- Here's Why
I'm confident that they can handle it.
WRONG WRONG WRONG.
Where is the total meltdown information?
Please show me the 44 countries that are trying to contain "it" and what is it?
Scientists have long suspected that Japan would see another "big one".
Fukushima has not exploded! STOP IT. Just because there have been hydrogen explosions at Fukushima does not mean that FUKUSHIMA EXPLODED.
I'm still waiting for the official word that Fukushima has melted down. Where is that again? Oh yeah! It doesn't exist.
Partial meltdown is not a total meltdown.
Nothing in your quotes said they assumed a TOTAL meltdown.
They said they couldn't be sure, but they were assuming a partial meltdown and were evacuating people for safety.
That was pretty much a given since last Friday. :/
The fire is out...at Three Mile Island, it was all contained. It was just a huge cleanup process.
In order for the radiation to hit the US, the fumes would have to go UP into the jet stream. I don't know how big the fire was or how long it burned...but I'm still not worried yet. It's a shitty situation, yup, but I'm not scouting out fallout shelters.
(If this gets bad, I'm just going to pfh's for a tinfoil party)
only if you show us your boobies!
Disclaimer: I have TOTALLY no idea where she'd pull that from.
Small sampling. I got tired of pushing the quote button.
