25 things about to become extinct in America!

Hmm.. :hmm:
I looked up uses of ash tree in humans:

- Guitar bodies
- Wooden Bows
- Canoe paddles
- Hockey sticks
- Handles
- Baseball bats
- Hardwood floor (guessing this)

Looks like any general woodworking use. Nothing specific that must be ash-only, so I'm sure oak, willow, ebony and trees like those are alternatives.

But there are probably specific animals that use ash trees for things like bird nests, perches, food, that kind of stuff.

weren't you going to make it from jeans?

yes ... thanks for reminding me

I am doing a major project on my free time and once that is done I will have time to look for some fabric. (I am staining a 3 story house).

Well, Ebony is on Africa's endangered list or something. There is probably no other alternatives to Ash when it comes to Baseball bats. Oak is king but MLB banned Oak and is on the fence for Maple. Oak for the distance they generate, and Maple for the splintering it can make. People have been seriously harmed because of Maple bats.

and maple switches (spanking) :giggle:

My grandma would make me pick my own maple switch when I was bad.

"Hand-Written Letters" that is something I would miss to see :(

I handwrite approximately 15-20 letters a month. The Post Office love me. I buy sheets of stamps monthly and I mail check for all my bills (Use the debit for gas , groceries and dining out only). We have 2 land line telephones in the house and 1 answering machine. (MIL uses voice mail). We have this awesome drive in theater here in town that sports 5 screens. The place is packed nightly, 7 nights a week. They run all kinds of special deals. Every summer is $5 for a car load for summer kids movies. Bring the report cards and all kids who got grades A-D get free things from the concession stand and those who got F's get a discount. It you passed to the next grade, you get a coupon for a free movie, if you fail, you get a discount towards your next movie and a booklet on study skills and moral boosters.

A lot of these are just replacement of old technologies with new technologies, but not a loss of the activity itself. People still use cameras, watch TV, follow the news, write letters, just with digital technology instead. Doesn't really sadden me.

Trees, crabs, and bees going extinct is sad though.

Although I think the average household has already done away with film cameras and digital is obviously the norm, i don't think this will ever fade out completly due to photographic art. There are many things you can do in a darkroom to create photo manipulation and although i'm sure you can create the same effect one way or another with photoshop, i just don't see enough photographers who use film ever wanting to get rid of their darkroom equitment. we just love it too much! lol.

In my house, we still have 3 35mm cameras and no digital cameras. There are the 2 webcams that will take pictures as well and the 2 Nintendo DSi's, but no digital camera.

Jiro, Ash trees are part of the ecosystem where wild animals depend on them for their homes and shelter. We have sort of similar issues with lodgepole pines in WA state being killed by some kind of beetle. It's sort of like a bulldozer destroying your home and you have no home or nowhere to go, basically.

I saw just how bad those beetles are when I was in Montana a couple months ago. 1 mountain was almost completely brown.
