2010 Winter Olympics!!!!!

Jiro.. I think it has to do with spending money on other things like improving the area in the Vancouver area like the housing and etc for folks on low income and other methods such as road improvement, and more... but well the city of Vancouver has had to see what can be doable to spend money on building new places for events like speedskating, bobsled racing and more... some places that have been built for the goal of future use after the Olympics is over and to be used as often or so...

Actually close. BC government slashed healthcare budget among others to fund the Olympics. It was big issue during the H1N1 crisis.

Canada is doing a spectactular job with the opening ceromonies!!!

so far - I've been thoroughly pleased with it..... $30-40 million budget for this.... wow

Shel90 and Jiro

Thank you very much for your nice compliment! :D

Best show the opening ceremonies was shown on CTV.... I was so blown away and impressed and happy as heck... even I got to see my childhood idol Wayne Gretzky light up the cauldron... man it was so exciting!!!

Right now watching women's hockey (yeah I do watch that along with men's hockey, so what!!!) and enjoying that game... interesting jersey look by the Swiss ladies... I think the Swiss men will have the same look of the jersey... score 3-0 for Sweden right now in 3rd period...

I still wait to watch short track speed skating in starting 8 00 pm (eastern). l favor Apolo Ohno.

It is great about have Olympics in Canada and I'm pleased to watch them on tv.

It is pretty better than 2008 summer Olympics in communist state with heavily censored and massive human rights violation.

I had that conversation with him long while back. H said no because he is protesting against it. damn hippie

lol, poor to him, nobody cares about it.

It horrible that someone was killed on a luge sled! He was only 21 years old , his dad was on TV . The poor man is heartbroken , his son is coming dead! I will not be watching the Games as I am boycotting Canada for allowing more baby seals to beaten to death!

Canada doesn't club baby seals, only animal rights extremists and those who believe it's their cultural aboriginal rights do. There's better reason to boycott the Olympics than that.

a lot of people do. every time we have Olympic Games, we do have some kind of protest awareness. oh well. I just want to watch the damn curling :mad2:

It's okay anyway. :)

I have never watched the Olympics before. Doesn't interest me. However what DOES interest me are the Olympics-related events that are occurring in Vancouver like the flash mob dance, or skavanga concerts, but I made the choice to pass them up.

another gold for Korean in short track including a medal for Korean skater in USA team. cool.

Ahem... Canada has banned clubbing baby seals since 1986.

About 95 percent of the sealers use guns to kill seals.

The seal population in northern Canada have exploded to six millions today from one millions in 1970s, so they need to be culled in order to control the population. They are one of the main devastating factors of the decline of cod population which led to the loss of 19,000 jobs along my fellow Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who depended their living in fishing industry.

well dang it. I was hoping Ohno didn't win the medal because I didn't like how he "cheated" 4 years ago that cost a gold medal for Korean :mad2:

Seven people were arrested in central Vancouver Saturday in clashes between police and anti-Olympic protesters, local news reports said quoting local police. Television pictures showed protesters scuffling with police in riot gear and demonstrators smashing store windows during the confrontation.

Police said protesters threw objects at police, spray painted cars and transit buses and intimidated pedestrians. A "criminal element" was using the anti-Olympic protest to carry out acts of violence, a spokesperson.

The protest by around 200 people came after a confrontation Friday evening with anti-Olympic protests before and during the opening ceremony of the winter Games.

In a statement, Vancouver police said a crowd estimated at 1,500 "engaged police" during a march downtown. Two police officers were slightly injured and one man arrested on a possible assault charge.

Several groups including members of the indigenous community, unionists, anti-capitalists, ecologists, civil libertarians and other activists have been opposing the Games.

After Friday's opening ceremony, city mayor Gregor Robertson voiced disappointment that there had been violence.

"I think all in Vancouver expect there will be peaceful protests and a few individuals crossed that line," he said.

International Olympic Committee communications director Mark Adams said: "We are totally in support of peaceful demonstrations but where we draw the line, and where most Canadians would also draw the line, is when people get violent."
