Challenger Accident

I know this is old news, but it still touches my heart whenever I recall the memories of that day it happened.

28 January 1986, I was at CSDF in my Holticulture class outside...teacher was talking about plants, etc...when I noticed a tv on in one of the middle school's classrooms and was showing a space shuttle flying in the air, then suddenly saw it exploding. I had to find out why it was happening, so I ran over to the classroom and watched the tv. I was 15, going on 16.
It was a breaking news from the local news station....remember the teacher, Christa McAuliffe...she was going to be the first teacher in space that year? I was told that she knew a few deaf people from American School for the Deaf in Connecticut. I knew one of the students who knew her.

Anyway, it was really the saddest day for the people of USA when we witnessed the explosion of the Challenger space shuttle.

Where were you guys when that happened?

I pray to the Goddess that THIS one isn't a REPOST as I did a SEARCH for this thread, but none came up. If so...dammmmnnn! :P

i was supposed to go to school but the school was automaticlly cancelled so mom had to take me to work mind u under ca law can t be home alone under 12 SO i stayed with mom but the resturant was like too SLOW no one was coming in so i helped bussed tables that day .. even the manager was too shell shocked so he just gave me 20 bucks cuz abt 3 or 5 of the buspersons didn t show up that day did ALOT of work! had fun but same time was sad

i was at MarylandSD at the time (i now cant remmy which class i was in at the time) and my class were at the library sitting around watching the tv and lo and behold the explosion -- everybody was  and so quiet then after a bit there was so much discussion on what could have been the cause

It's not a :repost: as per Java, phew! :) As for the Challenger tragedy...everyone at the school were shellshocked and didn't know what to do. All were quiet and students were unusually quiet and behaved well in classes rather than playing up like normal.

I was only 8 years old when it happened so.. I don't really remember what happeend that day :-p but I was shocked to see it happening on t.v :(

I was a high schooler (15 years old wild brat) at high school watching some news on TV. I was puzzled to see the explosion at the first. Later, I learned it was Challenger that exploded in the air. A friend of mine went to Florida with his family for a vacation and he supposed to witness the Challenger taking off, but weather was the factor, which often postponed Challenger take off date. His family had to return back to Ohio cuz they had to go back school next day, somehow, his father turned the radio in his car and heard the saddened news about Challenger. My friend missed witnessing the explosion in person.

Another friend of mine used to live in Florida between 1984-1989 before zoomed to RIT to get a degree. Anyway, she witnessed the explosion nearby because she lived near NASA place. She was, of course, saddened by witnessing a tragic event.

Seeing the Challenger explosion was a reminder to everyone in their lives.. Now, the most recent explosion of another space shuttle in exact month. It is very odd and scary!

I was still a little kid when it happened. I was in class watching the launch and when the whole class saw it explode, we didn't exactly understand what was going on. I guess we were to young to understand.

I was about 8 yrs old..all confused what's going on...because I was the only one deaf in the public school....it took few years for me to fully understand that it was a shuttle that was an accident.

I do recall myself being in the classroom when the intercom came on and that's when everyone in the classroom became quiet and had sad faces. It took me all day to find out what happened and my mom had to take me to my aunt's house who had a TV so I could see it all happen. :/

Columbia exploded upon entry on 1st February this year. Challenger exploded upon launching from launchpad on 28 January, 1986. Very close in dates, yes.

I was six and in kindergarten then . I do not remember it at ALL! A lot of my older friends at college (5th year senoirs) remember it, but I don't.

I was around 2 yrs old...

my brother was born a week before the accident

Although those are in the past, but whenever I look back and remember -- it always gives me the goosebumps and chills running down my back. Same goes for when I think about the demise and future the Jews faced while Germany was at war in WW2 and the Holocaust.

I was too young to understand even though my parents tried to explained to me, I was still very young.
