15 things you shouldn't be paying for

I get basic cable at $9 a mont along with my internet access. Might try the rabbit ears on my hdtv to see what I get. I can always go back to basic cable if I strike out with the rabbit

I am definately waiting for the endless Mt Dew tap to be installed, and of course free pizza delivery for late nights....thats not asking any more than some free tv stations from antenna is it?

You're too spoiled :) I think its cheaper to find the information on the internet. Instead of paying cable for the tv

But I like to watch the games and numbers. (and live car chases) ....

You can come over and watch too. :)

I have kegorators. Could probably figure out a way to run Mt Dew through one. Not the one with Coors Light though....That is the one Bubba ( my pet bear) drinks out of. I don't think we want to see him on caffine. :nono:

uncomfortable pants

I was given much wisdom during my first year of college. I learned that life is too short to wear uncomfortable pants...but first, don't buy them.

Another is Internet access. Why? Because some community colleges and universities (and yes some public libraries) also offer free wi-fi access to the Internet. This works best if you live in a college town and/or large city where there are multiple locations to get access via a laptop, iPad, iPod Touch, etc.

But if you are like me, and live in a very rural area (think cows in your backyard), you will have to sadly pay to get Internet. If you have a neighbor that lives close by you might inquire about installing a secured wireless access point if you agree to pay for the router and pay $5-10 month to share their internet.

If that isn't possible then I guess you'll just have to pay full-price.

I have to disagree. The reason is that I live in Boulder - University of Colorado town. Theres free WI-FI everywhere. Still I need to have internet at home to accept phone calls.

Not everyone uses VRS. But as far as the general population goes, sure why not just use the Universities Internet access to get email and do homework?

But still phone service was never free so what you're not paying with a home phone you are paying to access VRS. Make sense?

Dixie -

I think the internet access is somewhat important & necessary. Yet it's not necessary to have the "internet" access at home, if you already have the other way to get on the internet with the smart phone.

For my situation. I run business from home, and as well being a full-time college student, therefore - It's necessary for me to have the internet access at home to be able to do the homework, taking test through online and as well posting the posts on here, and other reliable websites.

Its not possible to cut the internet off at home, and do everything through my smart phone, it hasn't meet the requirements yet.

Regarding with the Wireless Access Point - Some people find it very useful to install and use it. In my own world - I dont think its really safe, and it has more quirements to stay safe.

ie.

Not everyone knows their neighbor very well. Some of them can be sex offenders, some of them can be hackers, and its like - i give them the privilege to access into my system, and get the information that they need.

I know there's a way to do the web filter, n etc and plus that cost more money as well.

it will consume the bandwidth, and gotta to pay extra to upgrade the internet speed? whatcha think?

I do lot of VPN and downloading that can lead others to be more upset that their internet is terrible slow if we decide to do the Wifi Access Point.

too much obligations

just a thought :)

I dont have phone line, or cell phone either.

So in this top 15 I should ask them to say that you shouldnt be paying for phones as well?

:giggle: I agree with you. I have phone contract with Verizon. I barely use it. I get numerous of text people who are trying to get ahold of me. I tell them to e-mail me instead. haha.

But as for me, the princess, I need to have a phone with me regardless its not necessary to have one.

I was involved with some car accidents, got lost in some city, coolant blew up on me - those incidents, I always feel so grateful that I have a phone that exist and contact the people to help!! :)

If the vehicle ever comes with (DEAF ONSTAR) Id cancel my phone contract with Verizon. hahah.

I will still pay for Internet, even if I can get free wifi.

Free wifi are not secured, and sometimes owners will leech secured information off of them.

Sometime leech the unsecured/secure wifi is fun! :giggle: There's one time when a neighbor had a unsecured wifi. I access, and disabled all of their computer MAC IDs and use for internet for a while, and - they contact the cable service, and the guy came over, and reset the router. They had to pay 75 dollars for service.

:aw:

Not everyone runs a business from home, not everyone is also a college student taking courses online. Sure your neighbor could be a hacker, pedophile, etc. But these are things that could be said about your co-workers, people at Walmart, people you ride the tram with, etc. You just don't know. You're right that not everyone knows their neighbor, but maybe this might be a chance to get that 'community' thing going again where neighbors actually knew each other, conversed with each other rather than living in the bubble that encompasses their property line and vehicles.

But if you're smart you'll know how to keep your pc safe when you do use their access point and it's really no different that using the wi-fi at Starbucks or the University Commons. Just keep your pc up-to-date against threats.
