100db gain HA's, is this ever going to be possible?

deafdude,

Despite the fact that I'm "only" hearing with 16 electrodes, music sounds better than it did when I had all 22 electrodes activated. When all 22 were being used, high frequencies sounded off-key and as if they were one or more octaves above or below where they should be. Now they sound completely in tune and high pitched voices no longer sound weak, distorted or off-key. I can't complain at all because I'm hearing music better than I did before. :D

Since my audi re-allocated the 6 high frequency electrodes that were causing me dizziness to low and middle frequency electrodes, I'm still able to hear at 750 Hz. I can also hear at 250, 500 and 1000 Hz. As for anything above that, I don't know, but my audi says I'm missing quite a few high frequencies. I'm guessing 6 due to the fact that 6 high frequency electrodes were turned off on each CI.

:D audiogram: 250Hz 60-70db, 500Hz 70-80db, 1k-4kHz 90-100db. It looks like banana slope. oticon bte aided: R 04% at 0 dBSL L 04% at 10 dBSL.

That tiny font is so annoying if had vision problems.

Charlotte,

You have 20/20 vision and you had trouble reading Lavender's post? Wow. That print font must be small!

not just small. it's also the color and specific font that made it hard to read.

Hmmm. I wonder why people do that? You'd think they'd write in a larger, clear font so their posts are readable.

that's not fair :mad2: but then.... I could try to learn braille... :hmm:

:giggle: True. The nice thing about Braille is that small fonts don't look any different than large fonts. Neither do fonts like itallic, bold, etc. except for the Braille notation which identifies it as such. :)

it's the youtube videos of adorable little girl using brailler - some kind of typewriter that types in braille.

OK - I know we're waaaaaayyyyy off-topic but I had to share that video :)

Jiro,

I LOVE my Perkins Brailler! I've had mine since age 5 (1975) and it still works perfectly to this day. :D

Back on-topic... :)

just one more off topic post please??

I'm ALWAYS so impressed on how people can read braille. I would even go up to ATM's (why the hell do they have braille on a drive-thru ATM?!), or anything that has braille and just at least try...I can't even feel much of anything, just a mish mash of bumps...i can't feel the difference between a 4 bump or a 5 bump.

Okay, on topic -

I do wonder though, what's the minimum number electrodes will CI still work and give a nice range of sound?

Lady,

The reason why they have Braille on ATMs is because blind people take cabs or have friends/family members who may drive them to the bank (or wherever the ATM is located). There have been many occaisons where I've gone to a drive-thru ATM. I'm glad they have Braille because it gives me privacy so that I don't have to give my PIN number to the driver.

I read that it's because of economic decision by manufacturer. It wasn't economically wise to manufacture 2 parts for atm - for blind and for non-blind. it was simply cheaper & easier to manufacture one piece for all.

There may be any number of reasons why ATMs have Braille, but the ultimate reason is equal access under the ADA.

You know, I learn something new everyday..I never even thought of that. I thought most of them would go inside the store to use the ATM. Thanks for clarifying!
