    Enough is Enough...

I am pretty sure it was because you spelled "apologies" wrong...and I do accept it! I just wanted to point out the possible motivation for this comment...

    Sunnybrook and Bilaterals???

I know an AVT therapist/Audiologist who went to Germany for her CI...not sure exactly why but she had reason for going to Germany over the US.

    Ear Molds

I am going to try a bunch hopefully and see what works. Still waiting for my audi to email me an appointment time - she should tomorrow. I see you mentioned a BB...does this mean you can use BBM now????

My First Class Ever With Interpreters

YAY!!!! I had my first University class in a while on Monday where I had to lipread/use a notetaker only. There was an interpreter but she was teaming with the note-taker so for about half the lecture I did the note-taker/lip reading thing....It was awful!!!!!

    Enough is Enough...

My daughter has autism and has a severe hearing loss. I get it for sure and certainly does help my work.

    Yes I do.

    Enough is Enough...

It is rather surreal, I will admit! It has been good so far and I hope it continues to be!

Are you the one who adopted your daughter? I can't remember, but I do recall there being a parent around who had adopted their child and for whatever reason I am thinking it was you? I definitely think that changes the feelings, especially those associated with the blame piece. I was adopted...

    Enough is Enough...

Faire and Grendel, I disagree. As parents we do grieve. We worry about what may happen tomorrow or in a year. We debate every decision that is to be made. We look for blame - why did this happen? Was it something I did wrong? It happens. If it isn't happening now it will happen later when your...

    Enough is Enough...

Yes, I think it is hard for parents to think about it as a grieving process. It makes them feel like a let down because of course they accept their child 100%, and to many this idea of "grieving" is congruent with this idea of not accepting their child for the way they are. It isn't that at all...

    Ear Molds

Did you change the tubing yourself or did your audi do this? I get new aids in a few weeks! WOOOOO! but I am also getting new molds. I think the consensus with my audi is that the molds will be hot pink - provided that isn't the colour of the aids.

    Enough is Enough...

I know Cherie and Tyler, and as both a Deaf adult and someone who works with Deaf children and youth I agree with every step Cherie and her family are taking 110%. She is exposing Tyler to both everyday and he is actively trying to use both on a daily basis. In my opinion, at his age the key...

    My First Interpreter

My friends go into the exam room with me all the time...not to interpret mind you. But just as support or whatever. I have never been told they shouldn't - by anyone. Both my parents are medical professionals too. No real interpreter, means I write back and forth. SOMETIMES I will have a...

If you're deciding on a CI or decided not to get one

I agree with PFH and the rest. Ron - I was surprised by your comment. If a person can use prosthetic limbs, but opts to use a wheelchair instead, should they not be allowed to use a ramp? Or upset that there is no ramp? I use this particular example because I have a friend who makes this...

If you're deciding on a CI or decided not to get one

That is the key part of this. I am most comfortable with ASL. I have oral skills, and use them daily, but ASL is what fits me best. I can work in any hearing job but at the end of the day when I go out with friends I want it to be an ASL environment. For this reason I have no need or desire for...

If you're deciding on a CI or decided not to get one

DrPhil I once again invite you to meet me, at any time in a nice well populated public place. Even at Sunnybrook - I am there often enough. I am not engaging in a debate about my Deaf identity with you again. I am Deaf. period. When I have gone into a doctors office for an ear infection, or...

If you're deciding on a CI or decided not to get one

Ron, good post. I do want to say though - I think for a lot of us...we just don't want one. No one accepts that answer, at least in the hearing world. I have been hounded by doctors and professionals about this answer and as a result we come up with things that will shut them up. "It is too...
