Trying to get accurate diagnosis for my son

LAmom, I understand how frustrating the doctors are. Doctors don't react well when they cannot immediately diagnose something very common. I get the words "rare" and "complicated" then shuffled between specialists. I don't have a solution for you. Only virtual tea and sympathy. The...

Unhappy people who want me to share their unhappiness. Misery may love company but happy people don't want to suffer with you!

What did you learn today? Part II

Angle, if you're late deafened, I don't think taking some time to fully research and think about your decision will matter. You may ask yourself why the specialist is pressuring you. The specialist may be drumming up business. Take the time you need to make a good decision. Each person is...

Bar-b-qs Not because I don't like bar-b-q but because they are overdone in Texas.

    Rant!

Stop by the appropriate office for accomodations and ask for assistance. They are legally required to make accomodations for you. The people in that office can get your professor to help you (like providing written notes for you). So many professors are, well, absent minded professors. lol

Should I Look For A New Doctor (ENT)?

I always go to independent audis. If the audi at the ENT office gave him a hearing test, he should get a copy of it.

    Hearing people's view of CI

Wirelessly posted (droid) I lack a particular functioning gene, protein or enzyme that prevents me from perceiving sound. It doesn't matter how much you increase the volume, I cannot perceive the sound. It is physically impossible. When someone shouts at me, it makes that person look like an...

The idea of dating again scares me.

Would Deaf Coffees be helpful? Going for coffee (tea or whatever) is also a great first date. Keep it casual and not stressful. You can always cut it short if it doesn't go well. Whenever you meet someone, maybe it's not a love match, but that person has friends and siblings to meet as well...

Should I Look For A New Doctor (ENT)?

ENTs are not very useful with hearing loss. There is very little that an ENT can do. Consider getting an audiogram from a audiologist if you haven't already gotten one. If you did get an audiogram, have the audiologist give you a copy. Whether you want to get a HA for a relatively mild loss...

    Hearing people's view of CI

Csign, I'm reading between the lines here. Maybe I'm off base but this poster indicates that people on AD are different than the "average" Deaf person in real life. I'm objecting to that. Perhaps the poster can clarify his/her thoughts. The writing is hard for me to follow.

    Deaf Attitude Toward HoH?

My experience with the Deaf culture has not been negative. IMHO, a person's reception in the Deaf community largely depends on that person's attitude. Of course, you're going to run into jerks in any community, so don't take that personally. Just find someone else who is interested in socializing.

    Hearing people's view of CI

Rivenoak, I have a lot of experience in real life with the Deaf/HOH community. I don't need to be educated. I have 4 degrees, including a doctorate and post-doctorate degree. Notice how well I write? Editor on the Law Review. Cut the patronizing act.

    Man Marries Dead Girlfriend

Wirelessly posted (droid) I don't think that marrying a dead person is a legal marriage. This guy would be laughed out of court.

    Man Marries Dead Girlfriend

Wirelessly posted (droid) Engaged for 10 years. That'll teach him not to wait. He said that he wanted to focus in studies but you can get a doctorate in about 7 years. Something is off here besides the weird funeral ritual.

how do u fill the hole inside?

Wirelessly posted (droid) For me, the cure is human connection. We are all connected but often we do no see it. A laugh with a loved one renews my spirit.
