Is anybody attending ColorFEST at Gallaudet next week?

    Sign for Plastic?

Jasin, you are an idiot. You clearly have no idea what Jillio is talking about. You need to stop posting about interpreting because you have no idea what it involves, and you don't understand when somebody tries to explain it to you. Everything Jillio said is correct, I would have used the...

    MVP Vs VPAD+

Here are the comments, translated for people who don't like to read them and also the Deaf-Blind members of AD.

Any one got a Vpad (Viable) ?

When I used my friend's VPAD it was easier to use the stylus with it. It is the little pen that goes in the back of the VPAD. That's probably what I will do when I get mine. I know everybody is talking about the MVP right now but I am just so tired of waiting! That's why I decided to buy the...

    vco calls from pagers

Do you mean use IP relay through AIM and do VCO? It won't work. For a sidekick, blackberry, or any phone, you can't use voice and data at the same time. AIM uses data so you can't use your phone at the same time. If you are using AIM on your computer, you can give your blackberry phone number...

Any one got a Vpad (Viable) ?

I don't mind that the contact list isn't ready. I am so excited about getting the vpad! I hope they contact me soon for installation. Is there any problem with firewalls? They said you can use it anywhere so I guess you don't need to configure things?

    Interview: Please Help

He or she is an audiology major, they said. Which is just what the world needs...another audiologist who knows nothing about deaf culture. I agree with what everyone has said about the OP's attitude. No need to add more, it's all been said.

Neckloops in public places - do they ever work?!

I recently got a telecoil program on my hearing aids. This weekend I went to the theater and asked for a neckloop. I was disappointed to find that it didn't work; I think the battery in the main unit (where the loop plugs in) was dead. Does anyone ever bring their own neckloop to...

What are high frequency sounds like?

There is no consensus. It's all an opinion. How do I know that what my mother hears is the same thing as what my wife hears? (They both have normal hearing.) They probably hear the same thing, but they may describe it differently. Just like green...we all agree on what green looks like, but...

    ASL Interpreter Agencies

Interesting, I see Graham is on that list. I have been an interpreter in the DC area for 7 years and I never heard of them before this thread. I am pretty sure no deaf people will have either. Search MD and VA on the site as well, since that is where many local agencies are actually...

    ASL Interpreter Agencies

That's what I've been trying to tell you. Graham has zero exposure in the deaf community. That's why I keep recommending the other agencies around here, which are all well-known. If you tell people you are from Graham, they won't know what you are talking about.

I found some graphs showing normal human hearing treshold.

I think the most important thing to remember is that hearing is not an exact science. Even if something looks like it should work on paper, it may not actually work. Auditory Processing Disorder is an example of something that can "fool" an audiologist. A friend of mine had hearing loss and APD...

    ASL Interpreter Agencies

Personally I would avoid those staffing agency places. Deaf people care about where their interpreters are from, and names like GIS, SLA, VLI, BIS, PIE, etc mean something to them but Graham does not. Can I ask why are you applying to them? I would question what they do in terms of...

I found some graphs showing normal human hearing treshold.

Yeah, 0dB is a pretty unrealistic level. I seem to remember that average hearing loss is 10-20dB so NOBODY hears at 0dB. My hearing friend got a test done just to see, and she tested at 2dB in one ear, 5dB in the other, and the audiologist told her that was incredible! (I think my wife has...

    Any Trekkies out there?

Yep, Howie Seago played a deaf negotiator. I am a H-U-G-E Star Trek nerd. :giggle: I agree that this belongs in Our World not HA/CI though.

I found some graphs showing normal human hearing treshold.

I have no way to know how loud the tone was. I tried it on three people, ages 25, 33, and 40. And no, it wasn't right in their ears, in all three cases it was from several feet away. At the beginning of this thread you didn't think people could hear in that range at all, so why are you now so...

I found some graphs showing normal human hearing treshold.

I don't know deafdude's history of wanting to hear what people with normal people hear, but I do want to mention that the best hearing aids only go up to about 10kHz. That's what I have; I did research to get the maximum frequencies available, and it doesn't really go higher than that.
