    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I have been hearing for almost 23 years. I've always loved ASL and learned some off and on since I was a little girl, but within the past few weeks I have re-awakened my interest in ASL and deaf culture and started learning for real. Since then I've started paying more attention to my own...

Official AllDeaf Switched At Birth Discussion [tv show on abc family]

I watched the entire first 2 seasons in 2 weeks, re-awakened my interest in ASL and here I am...learning diligently and addicted to a tv show for the first time in my life! (I never watch TV and only found SAB on accident!) I especially loved the "all deaf" episode. I turned the sound off so I...

    Switched at Birth's Inaccuracies?

I have always been interested in ASL, but I didn't REALLY want to learn the language...at least not enough to be diligent about it...until I discovered Switched At Birth. I watched the first 2 seasons in 2 weeks and that was it for me. I love watching to see what signs I can pick out or learn...

It bothers me when a deaf person ask me

At least she thought it looked like an expensive professional job that you did. :) Maybe she was trying to be funny? I'm an optimist. :P

How do you think Hearing society views Deaf community

As a hearing person, I can't remember a time when I was not interested in Deaf people, culture and ASL, but I also don't remember a time when I was not the odd one out and thought differently than everyone else around me. :) I still don't know much, but I've grown up at least being somewhat...

Breaking addiction to sugary/ sweet things?

I know exactly what you mean sugar being like drugs! It is VERY addicting and most of the U.S. is hooked on it and sick. I've been trying to beat a growing sugar addiction for 6-8 years or so and I finally found something that is working for me... I am affiliated with a company that produces...

    Newbie

I haven't actually attended OCC yet...unless you count one class I sat in on when I was 13. :P I was born on campus (they had married student housing until a few years ago) and have hung out with the students at various times, gone to events, etc. My older sisters each attended for a short...

    New DeafHangOut TinyChat Room Open!

Who you see listed is who is in the chatroom at that time. Yes, if someone broadcasts, it should come up automatically for you. It's really easy to use, just go in and start typing or broadcasting. :) Ditto the question about hearing people! :)

    Deaf Game

He took it down. :( There were a good number of hearing people upset about it and saying he did the sign for "a...hole" blah, blah, blah. I should have taken a screen shot...I wonder if I can reproduce it.... :)

Thanks, I hope so! :) Right now I'm just teaching myself out of a book, YouTube and a really good video course I found in a college library along with trying to find some local deaf people that I might can hang out with...not much luck there so far. Ozark Christian College has an (reputed to...

It bothers me when a deaf person ask me

I'm really confused....it's taboo to ask someone about their occupation? And are we talking about a deaf person asking or a hearing person asking? In which culture is this considered rude?

    Deaf Game

So....Sean Berdy posted this on Twitter today: Instagram ...with the comment that "only the deaf community will understand." I am dying to know what this is! Someone mentioned it was a game...9ing? Is is a huge secret ritual among deaf people? :) ....and he took it down. It was a picture...

Hey everyone, I am a hearie from Joplin, MO. I have loved ASL since I was little girl and learned some off and on, but I just recently started studying the language and deaf culture in earnest and I want to glean as much as I can wherever possible. :) Thanks for letting me be on your forum. :)
