    I have a big question

Joey, It's good to hear that you've been enjoying the mainstreaming route. Cause I'm another that's a byproduct of that route and felt that it was beneficial for me. However, you don't necessarily have to put down schools for the deaf in the process. If anything, some should remain open...

Late Deafened....When did you Come out of the Closet

Hi, welcome to the forum! One way to make a good use of the forum, is that each time you login is to click on the "New Posts" link on the topbar in the top of the forum and then scroll down. It's a good way to keep track of the posts.

Profoundly deaf - anyone like me, have CI?

I also remembered getting a little annoyed at a relative that was actually helping me out. When he, as constructively put, was implying that he thought I was kind of being a little "cranky". I then said to that relative "Hey, I'm the one that's having surgery not you!" indicating that he should...

    Not a candidate for CI?

That's where an hearing aid could come in handy.

Profoundly deaf - anyone like me, have CI?

Yes, even I take them off at home at times. Especially when there's no one around me or when I use the computer. But usually do put them on when I'm watching TV. Sometime I find it to be good practice. Whereas one is usually able to read the captions before the speaker actually completes saying...

How are you feeling with your CI so far?

Yeah, just the other day I was near a group of seagulls that were on the ground. Whereas one of them, perhaps a dominant one, "roared" at the others. It made me jump a little and even reminded me a little of the dinosaurs! :giggle:

    The "Mainstreaming" Experience: "Isolated cases"?

Alright, you have a point. That times could be different nowadays.

    The "Mainstreaming" Experience: "Isolated cases"?

Supposedly, I say mainstreaming was a good experience for me. Is that knocking the "Deaf" thing down? And when I said that I did make a good use of environmental sounds when wearing hearing aids, is that also knocking the "Deaf" thing down? I even told some of the Deaf that are toying whether...

Can a person be profoundly deaf with residual hearing?

Alright, upon your insistence. Here are some of the different ways I either enjoyed or benefited from the sounds when wearing hearing aids: - Enjoyed hearing the water rustling or splashing - Enjoyed listening to music in many different areas - Enjoyed listening to some people sing...

Profoundly deaf - anyone like me, have CI?

Pat, I know you meant well. And apparently you're one brave dude, good for you. And apparently you're also used to it and all. But I think Frisky Feline was just being honest in her response about having some qualms about surgery. Not all could have an "ho-hum" approach to surgery. Even I...

    The "Mainstreaming" Experience: "Isolated cases"?

Perhaps, do you care to elaborate on it?

Can a person be profoundly deaf with residual hearing?

Exactly, your response reinforced what I was thinking. That the reason why you asked that question was cause you were looking for an "opening". And that's why I answered the way I did. ;)

It seemed that all my non-speaking deaf friends always just get

Sometime if they sensed that you're being sincere that just made an honest mistake or something, they'll let you get away. But at the same time also give you a bit of a warning or an explanation as to what you may have done wrong so you'd know next time.

Can a person be profoundly deaf with residual hearing?

Alright, here's my question in return, why you want to know? Are you thinking about getting an hearing aid yourself...? I didn't think so either.

    The "Mainstreaming" Experience: "Isolated cases"?

First, I didn't say anything about the Deaf. I simply said the following: Sure, I know that some of the Deaf are smart. I know some of them myself and could also see it in the forum. Even when I was going to high school, I knew some of the Deaf. They just didn't go to my school, that's...

Profoundly deaf - anyone like me, have CI?

If you're talking about mappings? Yes, those who just got a CI tend to go more often, like about every 3 months or so. And then as you wear them longer, you can branch it out to going to just about once every 6 months or so which I tend to do. Although I do know of some that goes just once a...
