The Legend of the Mountain Man

I watched it, too. Also in Miami, as well. I liked it better than Wrong Game. I also got a chance to chat with the director, Mark Wood, a little bit.

    Cold Deaf Community

deafbajagal- You're not alone in feeling this way in SoCal. I lived there (in Riverside, even!) for 4 1/2 years. I graduated from Gallaudet and had suitable connections. And yet, I still never really felt I fit in there. C'est la vie...

    Are you subscribed to SigNews?

Count me in as a SignNews subscriber. Quality content, freshly written for publication in SignNews, unlike old Deaf newspapers in the past that simply rehashed Internet content, or reprinted newspaper clippings elsewhere in the U.S.

Going to School For Deaf Education

I really don't know that much about Flagler College, even though I have lived in St. Augustine in the past. I'm sure it has a good Deaf Ed. program, though. My suggestion; go for a Exceptional Student Education degree, not just a Deaf Ed. one. There's too many certified teachers of the Deaf...

    future of deaf ed

Actually, and thanks to inclusion, support services for DHH students are on the increase, despite a nationwide shortage of interpreters. I don't necessarily agree with you about a 'severe shortage' of qualified teachers in all settings. Due to the ever decreasing incidence of Deafness in the...

    Hello I'm from South Florida

Are you really in town? Cool. For you and other AD'ers in South Florida, the DPHH will be happening tonight. It'll be a fairly large one, I think. :) Click on the link... DPHH South Florida Hope to see some AD'ers tonight!

Deaf high school students graduate with pride

Very nice article! Two of these students are mine, and I'm quite proud of them. Funny thing is, they're going to RIT/NTID. So much for my Gallaudet recruiting efforts. I'm sure they'll love the RIT experience and will be highly successful there.

if $5 for gas price, would you take a walk, bicycle, scooter, subway, bus or.......

I would just simply keep my P/U truck. It's paid off, and runs fine. It is counterproductive for me to trade it in for a smaller car, when I will wind up having to pay off a loan and carrying comp/collision insurance? The tradeoff in fuel savings just isn't there. Obviously, I would take mass...

    Web Hosting

It's better to have a business plan that caters to anyone, rather than focusing on serving the DHH community. This way, a Deaf-owned business can expand and grow, instead of feeding upon itself and shriveling. Sure, a Deaf-owned business can cater to a core Deaf consumer constiuency and it helps...

Should I become a filmmaker or comic artist?

Peter Wolf comes to mind. As for the question, I would encourage you to pursue your dreams. Both fields are highly competitive, and very difficult to do. At a glance, breaking entry into the comics field would be easier for a Deaf person to do; just showcase your work and production...

    Quantum Leap pilot show

I loved Quantum Leap! (And also its cousin, 'Sliders') I was a student at Gally at the time, and as a result, I missed a lot of episodes. Season 2 is currently on my Netflix queue!

    Any deaf lawyers here?

I'm one of them. :) You can check this site out; Deaf Attorneys They do have forums, but they're only available for law students and lawyers. They have allowed a couple of people who were thinking about going into law school, though. It doesn't hurt to email them. You can also PM me...

    Favorite Web Design Program Software?

Flash has a steep learning curve, especially if one needs to do some programming. One thing I hated about Flash 8 --> CS3 transistion was that ActionScript 2 underwent a fundamental change to a version 3, almost a complete rewrite. I was beginning to understand ActionScript 2 fairly well, and...

    Peak Oil Transforming Deaf Education...

This has happened, but in an unforeseen direction. This is based on anecdotal evidence; a high school in Florida recently went 100% inclusion. The traditional self-contained classes for Deaf students vanished altogether. There were two tracks of Deaf students; Those on the regular diploma...

    My experience at Gallaudet

The interesting thing is, and this is my perspective as a Gally alumni. I think Gallaudet today is much more accommodating and inclusive environment for students who may not come from a traditional background. (i.e., Deaf family/Deaf school) This is because I attended Gally during the late...

    Peak Oil Transforming Deaf Education...

As some of you may know, a lot of Deaf children do not go to their 'home' school; they go to a 'center' school that has the necessary support programs, i.e., interpreting, note-taking, self-contained classes. When they are assigned to a school other than the one they are supposed to go in their...

    Favorite Web Design Program Software?

Why use Notepad at all? Just use Dreamweaver's Code view. It has syntax-highlighting and code-completion/code-suggestion features, making it a vastly superior editor than Notepad when it comes to hand-coding HTML.

    Learning another Language

I didn't take a foreign language class while in high school; I was waived from the foreign language requirement. I'm trying to learn some French now, though.
