Cis Are Not The Only Hearing Implants

BAHAs work for anyone but they're less effective than air conduction aids. So they tend to be worn by people with conductive losses or people who a very allergic to ear moulds.

How Do You Wake Up For Work?

I use the Sonic Boom Alarm. It's a separate alarm clock with no way to dismiss it short of manually switching the alarm off. A sibling of the Sonic Boom. http://www.connevans.co.uk/product/3742/40CLSB200/Sonic-Boom-SB200SS-bedside-alarm-clock-with-bed-shaker

Cis Are Not The Only Hearing Implants

Yes, there are also middle ear implants that work with something that's a bit like a BAHA, except with magnets. So you don't have the battery problem. And also BAHAs with magnets. But BAHAs don't go loud enough for profound loss and middle ear implants can't be used if you have a history of...

    Ear Molds For Profound Loss

I think it would depend partly on how sophisticated your hearing aid's anti-feedback software is. I have a moderate loss with skeleton moulds and when I got glue ear (which I still have), my left ear dropped to moderate/severe... I had to get a new mould set. It was still skeleton but slightly...

Getting Rid Of The Jungly Start Up Tune On Your Digital Has.

I actually quite like - especially with my recent glue ear, I could measure it against how many of the tones I could hear. But I'm glad there's a solution for those who don't.

    Failed Ci....removal?

I hope your insurance covers it. Do you think you'd go for the ABI? Would need MRIs after the second side was operated on?

Dramatization (as In Not Happening Yet) - Bbc Live News, Nuclear Attack Against The Uk

Especially interesting that this should come out around discussion of renewing Trident and whether it will remain in Scotland. Certainly alarming though. I am always a bit concerned that we'd be more of a target than the US.

    Failed Ci....removal?

This surgery failed because her auditory nerve on that side was damaged by the tumour/surgery to get it out. She's intending to have an ABI on the other sound which bypasses the auditory nerve and is attached to the brain stem. It offers perception of sound rather than speech intelligibility.

    Failed Ci....removal?

BSL Zone has a Swiss documentary about people who chose to unplug their CIs - the people featured talk about their decisions to either have it surgically remove or just put the processor away. http://www.bslzone.co.uk/watch/ive-unplugged/

Advice Needed - Adjusting To Has With Severe Sound Sensitivity.

Thanks for your reply audiofuzzy - it wasn't SSD but I was given steroids until they'd established otherwise. My bone conduction looked much the same as usual (5dB lower in two of four) frequencies which I'm going to keep an eye on since I've been going consistently downwards within normal...

My 3 And Half Yr Old Is Now Arguing About What Sign Is Right!

Yeah, it's pretty normal. I wouldn't worry about it - if she's able to argue about it with you, she's already recognising your sing.

Father To Hard Of Hearing 7 Year Old

I've got a bit rusty from disuse - though I am picking it up again but I went to school with lot kids who used Sign Supported English and all are able to easily slide into BSL. I'm not saying it's ideal - I'm saying that if a family isn't prepared to switch to ASL for all their interactions...

To Ask For An Interpreter... Or Not? Advice Wanted.

Mine orders them through the local deaf centre but I know that I'm not a typical interpreter candidate... and frankly the department doesn't even have a visual display for whose appointment it is. I asked for a pager but they don't have them for appointments, only the drop in service. :/

To Ask For An Interpreter... Or Not? Advice Wanted.

So, I typically have a mild-to-moderate loss (mild in low frequencies, moderate in mid and high) but an episode of glue ear in my left ear left me completely deaf for most of Thursday with some sound returning by the evening. On Friday my hearing had returned even more and my air conduction...

Father To Hard Of Hearing 7 Year Old

If you're going to be speaking to other members of the family in English then I would suggest using ASL signs in English grammar order but with opportunities to learn about ASL grammar. I would try to provide opportunities for her to use ASL with other people and to access the Deaf community...

Advice Needed - Adjusting To Has With Severe Sound Sensitivity.

Latest in my saga: Glue Ear. At around 10am on Thursday, I lost all hearing in my left ear except a tinnitus type hiss that was so quiet I wasn't sure I could hear it. Even my hearing aids produced nothing. I was also in severe pain. At about 1:30pm, I regain a small amount of hearing - just...

Advice Needed - Adjusting To Has With Severe Sound Sensitivity.

Okay, so I've been suggested to ask my GP for a referral to hearing therapy where they will play white noise into my aids to desensitise me. I'm not sure if it would just stop me being able to hear given that I find it very hard to hear over background noise. Might be worth a shot, though...

Advice Needed - Adjusting To Has With Severe Sound Sensitivity.

That is quite an odd fitting, indeed. I don't think my hearing aids have a sound recover setting though I shall see about asking whichever audiologist I see. I think I've experienced something similar to the bug feeling - sometimes I haven't heard the sound but I've "felt" something and I never...

    Open Fit V Ear Moulds

I switched from open fit to ear moulds because my hearing aids emitted horrible feedback when in open fit. Open fit works best for those with mild losses and some moderate losses (evidently not mine). Before switching back, I tried different tip sizes to no effect beyond some of them scratching...

Advice Needed - Adjusting To Has With Severe Sound Sensitivity.

I don't know whether I have or haven't. I had lots of testing when I was 7/8 but I don't recall what. I think I had hearing aids that were too occuled before, when I first got hearing aids but I haven't had it since. At the moment I have a 0.5mm vent but the part that goes into the ear is...
