I have started looking around for a new laptop to invest in since my laptop's old now and we don't want a PC anymore because it takes up space.

I want a Purple Laptop and my mother would like a Pink one :giggle:

I'm considering Toshiba, Sony Vaio or Dell.

Not sure how many Ram or memory on Hard Drive I should look for.

Is 2.26GHz any good?

I should get a laptop with webcam, bluetooth or wireless component, no?

What on the earth is Optical drive?

Which brands of computer do you like the best and why?

There's no plural for advice.

Sony Vaio's are overpriced. Toshiba's are not brilliant. HP and Dell are the market leaders.

As for exact specification, it depends what you want to do with it. If you only want it for general use, a mid-range laptop would be the best value for money.

your local jb hifi is the best bet, my friend.

Sony Vaio = ABSOLUTELY NOT! Pretty thing yes but useless expensive junk.
Toshiba = reliable and price is reasonable
Dell = :ugh: but cheap

how big do you want? 14"? 17"? you will use the laptop mostly for what? will you carry it around most of time?

at least 2gb RAM.
HDD (Hard Drive) = most of them are 250gb or more. plenty enough.

Is 2.26GHz any good?
yes. what kind though? I need a full name. Intel Core i5? Intel Core i7? i3?

I should get a laptop with webcam, bluetooth or wireless component, no?
sure why not? it's nice to have.

DVD player

I'd go for Toshiba. good price. good product. good everything.

Macbook Pro is better than all PC notebook but too much pricey. Toshiba is cheaper price. Sony Vaio is little expensive. Dell is ok.

I'm sure you would like Dell, they have pretty more optional to find color laptop

The important thing to remember is that you do get what you pay for. Reliability matters. Another important factor is customer service. If something goes wrong with the laptop, you don't want to talk to someone in India.

1 out of 3 laptops don't last more than 3 years due to malfunctions, accidents, etc. Hard drive failure is one of the most common problems with laptops these days. It's easy to damage a laptop by just dropping it onto the floor.

I would recommend to get a laptop that is 13" wide or less if you plan to carry it around a lot. Not a lot of people like to lug around a 17" laptop around these days.

Keep these in mind, you get what you pay for. Reliability matters. Customer service within your country. Don't let the price play a big role in your decision. A laptop is a long-term investment, make sure you pick the right laptop for yourself or you'll regret it.

Stay away from Sony Vaio and Dell. Sony did bad job for driver on Windows 7 64bit and overprice.

Dell is super low price but too cheap to feel and break so easy for laptop.

Most my old coworkers, few families own Toshiba and they have no problem with that and good price.

Bluetooth is pointless to you and it's good for keyboard, mouse, headset, and mobile. Most PC mouse don't use bluetooth so much, they come with radio usb.

Any Intel with dual cores are great for you. Speed don't matter to me. My wife's Macbook air is Intel 1.8ghz at dual cores and no problem with M$ office, webcam, and FLASH game.

I suggest you use a WIFI with "N" Most new routers don't use Wifi G anymore. I noticed some new laptop still use WiFI G. The WIFI N is long range than G between laptop and router that allow you to carry anywhere around a house.

Tell me what you use laptop for? It's all depends on people.

Like
1GB of RAM and 36GB SSD (solid-state drive) is good enough for quick boot up to check internet/email only.
2GB of RAM and 500GB HDD is good enough for edit video.
4GB of RAM and 250GB HDD is good enough for graphic design.

bluetooth = you can connect any devices to laptop like your cellphone

bluetooth = you can connect any devices to laptop like your cellphone

I already said that. :D

Add on:

Problem, not many people know how to use it and drain mobile's battery life quick. So USB is better for fast SYNC and recharger at same time.

It depends on what you're planning on using the laptop for.

They have different types of laptops designed for education, work, personal use, media, gaming, etc...

I like the Toshiba that Jiro suggested months ago. Only regret is that I went too big. Nice at home but a pain on an airplane

Which is why I said 13" wide or less if the plan is to carry it around a lot.
