I determined that the Fire TV sold by Toshiba attempts internet connection at intervals
even though configured NOT to do this and powered off using the power button and still
connected to the outlet.

Hello I am new member of this all deaf..I think this is wonderful idea where can find old friend who is deaf easy to find phone nbr. But sadly I lost my friend vp nbr hard to find her can’t find her at all. So sad

All those conspiracy theorists , yeah the smart tvs collect data but its not what you think (bank accounts, credit info...etc.. ) it collects data about what shows you watch and on what apps to cater to your veiwing experiences, Like if you watch Horror Movies, then it shows you more movies in the Horror genre..... Not like its gonna hack into your bank accounts. And to turn it off you have to do it when first set up as Vizio got sued over this, so the tv manufacturers have to give notifications on start up when first setting up to allow or to deny. If it isnt done at startup it is harder to deny later down the road and change the settings. Got to read the fine prints. Hate to tell you what your smartphone does without you knowing.
