Yay!

Yeah ughhh.. So frustrating I hope that changes for people... its terrible they can get away with that.

It'll only change if the government makes them pay for it.. They should!

Probably means will have to have universal healthcare in order to start covering hearing aids.

You have got to be kidding me. Is that the regulation they base on?

 Jamie

Here's another angle that I have heard regarding this: Hearing aids are not DURABLE medical equipment like the CI is......

See my thread on $100 multicore HAs that could be bought over the counter. I hope those HAs are at least good enough for severe hearing loss and give *some* benefit to profound loss that is better than going without HAs for those who don't have $2500 each HA($5000 a pair)

We need more competition and cheaper HAs, if those $100 HAs are even half decent, there will be alot of pressure and competition and audiologists will have to stop charging ridiculous markups and companies will themselves sell those HAs for less to audiologists who will be forced to pass the savings. Thus todays $2500 HA could become $500 to $1000 depending how good $100 HAs are.

Here are the pics I promised =) =)

YAY!!! So glad you like your new HA's!! The clear molds are COOL... maybe in time Adam will wear those (I'm sure they are not as fun to chew on as his are now! LOL)

It is ridiculous that insurance doesn't pay for them... I know my personal insurance just this year started covering Hearing Tests! Luckily Adam is still under state insurance (and will stay that way) and they do pay a certain amount for HA's.... but he's little so I think it's a 'prevention' thing...

Anyhow!!! Great looking aids!!! Are they helping w/sound?? Better than your old HA's I mean...

They are great with sound and I am able to use the phone with them! Before it was really hard to try to find the "sweet spot" to talk without the phone on speaker. The T-coil feature is AWESOME I love it! Yes I like the clear molds toooooo =) Its good the state pays for his, maybe some day we will see insurance companies paying for them..

I am so happy for you :wiggle: (<- Looking silly all by myself in the family room but whatever)

And the clear molds of the HAs look cool too!!!!! So good it works out better with the phone now!!!!! :D I am pretty sure you were worried about getting new one, right?

Everything worked out for the better!

 Jamie

Cosmetic doesn't mean it makes you look better in this instance. It means it is not necessary to preserve your life.

HAs are necessary to preserve your life, without them you can't hear traffic coming, so you get run over!!!

Gee, thanks for telling me. I knew there was a reason I wore them!

I was talking about the rationale of insurance companies.

My neighbor (whom I did grocery shopping tonight just like every second Thursday) is hoh in one ear. I keep telling her she should get a HA but she doesn't want to.

Should I insist or ignore her stubborn attitude :giggle: (<- I'm giggling but it's not funny... she starts driving me nuts)

She drives you nuts because she can't hear?

NO!!!!! Because she is stubborn ;)

Yea that was me with the CI, my old speech therapist kept telling me "You should get it." and I just kept saying NO!

10 years later, I finally got it, so she has the last laugh.... *sigh* :)

I know you were talking about the rationale of insurance companies, but I still think I made a valid point. Not wearing HAs compromises the safety of D/deaf people and therefore puts lives at risk. For example, my BSL tutor only wears his HAs when cycling, in order to hear traffic and be safer. This is something US insurance companies should bear in mind when allocating funding, and especially when suggesting that HAs are merely cosmetic.

I had almost forgotten about the phone issue (since A doesn't talk on the phone, but would rather lick it! LOL)

YAY!!! So happy for you!! Having a great Audi is so key... I'm glad you got w/someone who is really able to help you!!

Well of course they should but insurance companies are in business to make money. Most people will go through a set of hearing aids around three years time I believe. That cost would start to add up especially when you include older people who lost some hearing due to age.
