Xbox 360 Goes 1080p
The fall software upgrade expands resolutions.
by Charles Onyett
September 20, 2006 - According to an official release by Microsoft at their Tokyo Game Show 2006 press briefing, the Xbox 360 will be able to support 1080p games and videos. According to the press release, the fall update will usher in the upgraded resolution capability.

"[Microsoft's] fall software update, scheduled for release later this year, will allow all Xbox 360 consoles around the world to output game and movie content in 1080p resolution."

Which games will be released in the future that will support the higher resolution is still unannounced. 1080p, or 1920 by 1080 progressive, is a visual upgrade over the Xbox 360's current maximum resolution output of 1080i, or 1920 by 1080 interlaced. We'll update as more details become available.

For anyone who have HDTV with 1080p, it's worth to get one.

If you don't have one, don't bother!!!!

of course...I dont even have HDTV so it sure blows that I cant even get HD-DVD drive either.

That's great but I don't have HDTV that support with 1080p then I don't need to worry about it because 720p and 1080i are great enough.

I honestly dont think we really need HD in gaming thou it's only to make the picture look better but games would still run fine on a standard television, as most ppl still have standard televisions today.

Some xbox 360 games aren't compatible with standard tv or graphic wouldn't good as HDTV does because no resolution to support 480p, look at PGR 3 and it wasn't compatible on standard tv except for play on monitor with VGA input. The games that support 480p are going cease soon, as most games will make in 720p, 1080i and 1080p (all of them are HDTV).

I rather to play games on HDTV or monitor with VGA input.

FHDTV 1080p goes support my Xbox 360 as 480p, (not 1080p), graphic look so-so. But it does support PC fully 1080p and very beautiful color and graphic!

If you notice, most Xbox360 and PS3 games only actually run in 720p.

very few games run in 1080i/1080p such as MGS4 is one of those that ran in 1080i so it looks pretty good indeed...but still, the games that runs in 720p or so are still as good too.

Call of Duty 4 actually ran in 600p to make it look identical as possible for Xbox360, PS3, and PC.

If it was an exclusive title just for one console, it would've proably been more than that. *shrugs* who knows.

Yes I forget to mention it. You are right the most games running in 720p too what I noticed on my LCD TV..

I run my 360 on 2 different tvs. One, a 20' Fullscreen LCD Sharp, which maxs out at 480p and still kicks butt. The other, a 50' Plasma that maxs out at 720p. From what I can tell, 480p is good enough. I played on a 13' SDTV for a few weeks before getting the 20' LCD. I'm happy with 480p.
