Wow! I Have surgery Tomorrow! This Is It!

Wow! I remembered someone was getting implanted today but wasn't sure who. Congrats! You are most likely already implanted & at home feeling sore & all. :/ I'll know the feelings of the whole thing in just almost 3 wks. [it'll be 3 wks this coming Thursday for my surgery!] Ack!!!
Good luck & tell us how you're feeling & all!

Hi everyone!

I'm back home with my new implant. Marcia Clark told me that given my history of deafness, I'm more likely to have success with MedEl than with the Nucleus Freedom so they implanted MedEl in my left ear.

Hook up is 2 weeks from now but I dunno what day. I'll have the bandage removed on Monday.

Right now my left ear area and neck hurt from the stitches and I'm feeling a little sick but I'm otherwise fine. Last night I was a bit dizzy from meds. I'm feeling better now though and I'm not dizzy anymore. I'll keep y'all updated on my progess though.

Interesting tidbit about Med-El. I will have to ask MC more about that.

I'm glad you are home and recovery pretty well. Just take it easy and I'm sure you are eagerly awaiting the hookup day!

Welcome back! I'm glad that you aren't feeling too bad and that the dizziness is going away. That's good as for me it lasted 3 weeks. Interesting that you have got a Med-El implant - it will be great to have a wider variation of brands on the board :)

My dad showed me an xray of my implant and he had to show me where my implant is. He told me that Dr. Pillsbury tested it and it tested just fine. I'm glad to see that they have FM systems to go with it. I'll be glad when the pain in my eardrum goes away. I feel like my eardrum will burst soon. I had that feeling even before the operation.

Oh I'm very glad I don't have the ringing in my ears anymore. I do have tinitus though but I didn't expect my tinitius (the one with the clicking sounds and not my recruitment issues) to go away entirely. The clicking sounds have never bothered me as much so I can live with it.

Good luck!. Don't be afraid the procedure is very easy and smooth. Just relax and when you are done you will be with a pressure bandage. For 24 hours then you can take it off. But you have to wait 5 days to wash your hair .
:ugh: My mother is going to complain about my hair smelling.

You can use a damp flannel to clean your hair on the implanted side and wash the other side carefully with your mother's help (over a basin with a jug for example). I would section the hair up for ease.

That's pretty good that the ringing sounds have gone away. Tinnitus won't go away entirely but to have an improvement so soon and without the input of sound yet, is encouraging.

It sounds like your Dad is really supportive and involved now too. I'm so glad that he rallied up for you.

DS welcome back to your home.. I decide to wait till today to tell you..

Im glad your feeling better, I do recall my soreness on my neck area smile.. but take your time, don't over do etc.

Another hints.. you can ask your mom to help you wash your hair but keep the implant side UP.. like in kitchen sink my husband did help me a little bit.. I felt so good doing that way since im very picky when my hair doesnt look clean :giggle: so.. again do update with us again :)

Glad everything went well. Ashley has Med-El. She is doing great with hers. Good luck. I hope it works as well for you.

Thanks. I've no infections so far so everything is going well. I hope to find out when I get hooked up tomorrow! :hyper:

Wow, that is really fast - I had to wait 3 weeks before being hooked up. I'd say I wasn't ready until 2 weeks. I hope it goes well for you tomorrow, then and we expect a full report. :)

Great to hear the surgery went well, and that there's no complications. Hope the hook up tomorrow will go smoothly as well. Be sure to have a hanky on you as you might cry from shock or excitement. ;)
