Would you ever consider having a Hearing Dog?

With many blind people being able to get around with seeing-eye dogs...as wonderful these dogs do for these people...Hearing dogs are known to do a great deal of many useful duties for the Deaf/HoH also...I've been intrigued by how these Hearing dogs are able to help out in many situations for the Deaf/HoH and often wondered about the value of having one in the home someday....

Have any of you thought about obtaining and purchasing (I do believe there are programs available through states, etc...that brings down the costs) one of these kind of dogs? Or is there any of you that have a Hearing Dog, if so, would you be so kind to share anything in AllDeaf? :)
 
I think they are pointless. I've seen people getting hearing dogs and they end up spoiling the dog or not using the dog properly. I know a lot of people who have hearing dogs, but they actually brag that it's a pet that they can take anywhere with them since the law permits them to do so. Where? They can take these dogs to grocery stores, malls, school, anywhere... cuz the law permits them to do so.
 
as a deaf person myself, when a hearing girlfriend
from my work she strongly suggested that i get
a hearing dog at first I thought it was NOT that
necessary... so she encouraged me to give this
a try... good enough i got a real nice & wonderful
dog from Colorado (International Hearing Dog Inc)
and in fact that same dog actually SAVED my life
2 times due to my deafness I could have gotten killed
by someone else i didn't realize that I was
in a real danger 2 times in my entire life...
I do not feel like to repeat the long story into details, but
generally it's much worth to have a hearing dog...

Unfortunately, my beloved dog passed away
and it was the best dog trained very well by
the International Hearing Dog Inc in
Henderson Colorado. I'm thinking about
getting another hearing dog again someday
sometime in the future Geez, I really miss
that dog
 
My first semester away in the dorms I was complaining to my RA that I missed my cats. (they always sleep with me when I am at home) She looked at me and said " Well Deafdyke, you could get a cat and just convince Res Life that it's a "hearing ear cat!" :)
 
Honestly, I think it´s not necassary to have hearing dog...
I was grow up with dogs to know them very well. They barked straight way when the door ring or someone come down or up..... What they doing is enough for me... They know I´m deaf because they want to tell me something then do with their claws on my leg or hand.

I beleive the dog is suitable to acompany the blind people.
oh no... I think it´s waste of time to train the dog to be hearing dog because they will be become pet to receive the loving from their owner...

It´s normally for cats sit & wait then call "miaw" for their owner to open the door but my 17 years old cat Sussi didn´t but jump up to the window to make us notice her. As you see that the pets know you are deaf when they live with you for years...
 
I would purchase any kind of dogs and just trained it.....That why pet stores sell the best dog treats!... :)
 
what is the point to have hearing dog?? I have doorbell, and the phone, fire alarm flash. I dont need a hearing dog.. I have 2 cats and they are part of my hearing cats. They hate the sound of the doorbell in the past. They RUN when they heard the BUZZZZ.. Now, I have the light flash. They JUMP!! :lol:
 
I think Hearing Dog Training Dogs are good for People that Need it like People on WheelChairs or Blind People I think it's So Cute to see them being Helpful and to help them live a better life...

I don't Think I need a Hearing Dog..It Just for children and families living with autism and special needs...That Would Help them enriching the quality of life and enhancing the independence. Dogs matched with physically disabled clients may be trained to pull wheelchairs, turn light switches on and off, open doors, take laundry out of the dryer, or retrieve dropped items. They may assist people into or out of bed, help them dress or undress, or even change their position in bed, if needed. I Think that Helps them a Lot and live an easy Life with Help from Dogs that would lead their life a lot easy and Conforable.
 
Applied for Hearing Dog twice and both were rejected.

Did you know some countries training a small monkey to feed and look after paralyse people too! Not only dog!

Yes, true.. the pets are great to cure severe handicapped people... to give them lovely feeling...

I have considered getting a Hearing Dog -- but hubby and I decided it'd not be worth it because most of the times, we both work during the day time and are together at night time -- no real point in having a hearing dog with me.
 
I would rather train my own pet because many of the places would not approve for hearing dogs and some of pets you can't have it because it was not trainable according to them.. such as my old pet Doberman is consider not a hearing ear dog.. I had to laugh because Lincoln knew I was deaf and He was practically trained himself to let me know what's going on.. phone, doorbell etc He let me know! im like whoa you knew Im deaf ?? COOL !

Well, i think its fine for people who live alone...especially at night if they dont have hearing aids on, or are deep sleepers who may not wake up to flashing lights or whatever..I dont need one now as i have hearing husband and a dog in the house..I have a friend who lives in Colorado that trains hearing dogs (she is HOH and used to be an interpreter). So in my opinion, it really depends if they need one.

I would, though dogs arent for everyone, it takes alot of time, effort and understanding to commit to a dog, let along a hearing dog.
theres absolutely nothing wrong with a working dog being with their partner (owner/keeper) in public, too bad for the jealous publics or other defies.
there is a lot to know about hearing dogs, they are a rare mix of opitium temperments and traits and should be savioured , encouraged. Its a wonderful gift for all those deaf people who wants a dog to love, and team up for life.

Not all blind people have guide dogs, and neither not all wheelchair people have service dogs, if you look around carefully, most of them who do, are dog people and they have every right to be, and its part of them, an extension of themsevles if you will.

There one significant issue about hearing dogs, is that they do not fit in the sedated guide dog mould that the public have seen for so many years, an image of a dog that quietly blends in the background, its nothing to do with 'a fault of a hearing dog(s) or the deaf person(s) , it is that 'trade-off' from the ideal mix of certain trait/temperments of the dogs that allows them to function as a 'Hearing Dog". The public, hearing and Deaf people alike needs to be educated more about what defines as a Hearing Dog, stop hating them, or you're just destroying the chances for both potential dogs and potential hearing dog recipents. These dogs deserves their second chances, as well as deaf people should be allowed to have a rights to working canine companions!
 
I would want to get a hearing dog someday, because I cannot use the strobe on the fire alarm...the strobe blinds me. Especially if I've been sleeping in a dark room and all of a sudden the alarm strobe goes off! Every single time, I have always had difficulty finding the door out of my room when it goes off! (I had to deal with that crap at the stupid state school for the deaf) It always took me a good 2 minutes or more before I find the damn door! So, I would rather have a dog. A dog can alert me to a fire if I am sleeping, it will wake me up and I will be able to know what is wrong and be able to get out of the house in MUCH less time, to safety!
