Would you try to conserve water even not under a drought emergency?

We do to save the energy what we can accord the enviroment...

The children were taught by school why the energy, water etc are most important...

- Do not let the faucet water run constantly when brushing teeth or shaving.

Correct, we used the plastic cup to fill the water while finish brushing our teeth.
Use soapy water in the sink for shaving

- Use washing containers to hold water for dishwashing and rinsing to avoid water running constantly.
Correct, we do it. We have special washdisher & washmachine with save energy.

- Do not drain water if it can be used for other purposes, such as watering houseplants or plants outside. Put a bucket under shower to collect some water for that purpose.

Water the plant with soapy water? Poor plant...

Collect the water from shower is toooo stress.... :eek2:

I used leftover cold water after finish boiled unpeeling potatoes & boiled egg to water the plants which it´s good for plants´s leaves.

I used leftover vegetables or peeling potatoes fluid to make the gravey or sauce...

I rather to use rain barrels to rainwater the gardens, plants etc.
I owned 4 500 litres of rainwater barrels... 3 is outdoor for garden & 1 is indoor at washroom. The rain comes to drain gutter to fill the barrels real faster... We used rainwater all the time without use taps.
We have 2 water meters... One of them is use for garden without sewage cost...
We collect water from puddle pool to water our garden except lawn... The rain do it for us...

- Check for any leaks in the house. One drop a minute can add up to a significant amount of wasted water per year.

Correct... it was happened to me before... the leak are defect... I leave 2 litres of jug to let the water drop up to 2 litres within 10 hours then use it for plants or boiled the tea or coffee or eggs etc. until the repair is done...

- Avoid flushing the toilet if unnecessary. Dispose of tissues, insects and other items in trash instead.

Correct... I throw insects etc into trash bin instead of flush to waste the water...

- Store water in containers in refrigerator instead of waiting for tap water to become colder, hence wasting water.
:dunno: I drink the water straight way instead of wait until the water colder because the water are cold already...

actually, if you use a toilet deodorant, it will cover up the smell.

Oh No, the heathly comes first... It doesn´t help when you use a toilet deodorant to cover up the smell. The germ would affect your healthy...

The healthy is most important than save the water for only toilet...

I´m too fussy to take care of the toilet to rid of germs etc.

My daughter's friend came to my house and she don't flush my toilet after using it and I find it rude, and I question her why she forgot to flush it, and she said she don't allow to flush her toilet at home, and I was baffled why, and I asked her mother, she said it cost her about $10 per day for flushing her toilet, and she teach her 3 children not to flush her toilet! What a tight wad she is!!. My daughter don't like to using her toilet knowing its smelly there.

 It makes me feel sick when I smell at toilet... :eek2:

I hate to watch him washing fishes he caught from the pacific ocean knowing he will waste about 20 litre of water for scrub and wash each fresh fish!! He is fastidious to keep fish clean!!

 I also dislike when I watched your hubby doing like this... He let the water running while he wash the fishes & chat with his friend... 20 litres..Oh no... maybe 100 litres
My son remind your hubby to turn the water off but your hubby told him to leave it alone & carry on chat with his friend  I remember it... lol...

And finally, soap water actually can be used on plants as a defence against some pests.

I asked my work colleague Rosemarie about soap water today... She said it's correct what you say...but do not use it more often... say around once every 2 weeks...

I'm total surprised because I didn't know about this...

Of course -- water is the most vital thing in our survival aside from food. If we didn't put an effort in conserving water for our consumption, it'll be total chaos trying to find water to survive.

Does USA have water restrictions in effect in order to conserve water? Here in Australia -- there are restrictions on what can be used with water (such as watering plants etc) and not to use that will waste water.

Yes, drought hit Australia badly, not enough rain for a long time, and unfortunately it means our vegetables, fruits and some meats are expensive to buy because of restricted foods eg a punnet of raspberry normally cost $4 now $7 each!

Drought made the farmers and wine-growers struggle to survive.

Yes, that is right. You don't pour it into the vase, but put it into a sprayer. You can spray the leaves, and it will act as a protective layer on the leaves against bugs and pests.

I pull this old thread to add here for the newbies :thumb:

Come and share your view with us. :thumb:

Poseidon project will be dotting the California coastline with desalination plants that will produce an almost unlimited supply of water for human consumption. So we will have the means to stave off a drought episode.

I've tasted bottled desalinated water from Poseidon and it has a distinctive aftertaste but it's drinkable and tasty.

I have always tried to be a good steward of our utilities and natural resources. Even if there is no official conservation required, I don't like to waste things. Also, saving water and electricity saves money. Especially saving hot water saves water AND electricity.

I cannot stand wastefullness.

How about we all get one of those composting toilets? Hehe but seriously...

Those are useful in remote places that don't have sewer or adequate septic systems (such as sporting cabins in the woods). I don't think it would be popular in my subdivision, ha, ha.

hahaha..a good but gross idea!

Seriously, I take water conservation very seriously.

I view water as gold.

It upsets me to see a few houses with dark green lawns with houses on both sides with yellowing lawns. It is clear that these folks waste water. Or seeing sprinklers when there is rain!

I take showers or baths every other day because I dont feel right about wasting gallons of water. I also limit my washing to only once a week.

Well I can always move to other state or another country.

Why stay in California, it is just a land? :ugh:

What happened to all rains we got this year, too much water here and we can not save them for our future. Bummer now I have to pay higher water bill this summer.

If it wasn't for the holes in the ozone layer, we would still have all the water on Earth.

A couple of ways that my family saves water throughout the day:

- Showering/washing/brushing teeth -- only turn the faucet on when rinsing. My mom takes baths instead, while she's waiting for it to fill, she brushes her teeth and goes to the bathroom.

- When doing dishes we do most by hand & own a dishwasher that uses very little water.

- We only flush the toilet when we have BMs. Put the lid down and you won't smell it, and there is plenty of bacteria in the toilet anyway. Yeah it's gross, but get over it.

- If we must water our lawn, we do it in the morning. That way all it soaks in before the sun comes up. If you do it in the afternoon, lots of water will evaporate, requiring more water to green up your lawn!

- Wash your cars by the bucket, not with a constantly running hose.

- We put our indoor plants outside when it rains. It rains often enough here that we rarely have to water them ourselves.

We cut our water bill in half using these practices.

See thats another form of socialism. Local goverments are starting to put water restrictions and if youre caught you pay a heafty fine. Now west palm beach posted water restrictions even well after the drought in 2002 and guess what??
6 county councilmen lost their jobs in november. Thats how you gotta fight the bull! If your local politicans put water restrictions and if it lasted more the six months make signs and strart protesting just 6 days before the election to remind voters what the trouble your county councilmen did to you and they will be out of the job.Local politicans are starting to work just like how the kremlin does things in russia.

Yes I definately conserve water. There are no restrictions on here right now (It is winter in NZ right now, so there is plenty of rain!) but I always do my part to conserve water, and electricity too, recycle etc. It's all part of the same package for me.

You know:
Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

raven this is not political debate get it? this topic is about asking members in here if they are conserving the water in their home and discuss about fines nothing else....GEEZ dont ya have to bring up political debate in each topic that is posted in here?

here an example, IF you ever ended up get stuck in desert or have car break down in middle of nowhere with no stores or water near by and you only have gallon of water in car. WOULD you conserve the water each day for necessary of survival until you get help?
