 I find this fascinating.

I know that WWI is often seen as "pointless and indecisive war". However it caused the direct downfall of three empires, the indirect fall of a third (Russia), and arguably accelerated the end of British Empire and European colonial power. That seems pretty decisive to me...

I think my two favorites that I can't decide on: the British madman with an Union Jack shirt in a brave step over to the mainland European wasteland, and the glaring Austro-Hungarian Empire who sensed a menace daring look of great Satanic Russian Rhinoceros threatening to slam the full clash force of century onto Eastern Europe.

I could post more if you like. There are a dozen of them out there.

:D

I'm not into wars. I'm sure someone has a real WW1 map hiding somewhere. One that would be worth a lot in auction.

Oh, screw it. I think I'll post one more. This is not satirical however. Next posts I'll post the rest of parody piece by piece. :D

This steampunk fantasy is a perfect example for not being satirical. It is drew by artist Keith Thompson for author Scott Westerfeld book trilogy titled: Leviathan, Behemoth, and Goliath. They’re supposed to be very good books so hopefully I will read them eventually. :hmm:

Wow interesting, but there's so much going on in those maps that my brain has trouble processing it lol. <headache>

Well, drink a cup of red wine, I guess... That'd be helpful for your dilemma headache.

On second thought, I wonder how stoned folks would process their slow brains into understanding this newspapers' fantasy world of the Great War...

I wish the pictures were bigger so I could make out more of the details.

The 'madman in a Union Jack vest' is John Bull, who is a national personification of Britain much like Uncle Sam for the US or Marianne for France.

John Bull, not so much in modern day now, but definetely back then.

I've seen these before, but its nice to have them online here. I don't think the civilised world has ever recovered from WWI. Although having said that, Australia has built its entire culture around the concept of "mateship" and the events of the Gallipolli campaign.

Oh yes, that was awful, bloody battle. That powerful Mel Gibson movie was pretty good in its depiction of the Gallipolli battle (just outside Dardanelles strait).

Sad ending :(

These are VERY good books! I can definitely recommend 'em... especially if you're into steampunk and adventure. It's definitely a nice spin on the WW1 setting, which I already found to be a very fascinating historical period. These books though, they'll make you even more fascinated by the time period, even though much of these books is fantasy. :P

This one is probably the worst one (don't worry, there are still some more to come).

Fascinating. I didn't know people would have done so many variations on the same theme. Are there any that are not so Euro-centric?

Yes, there is one in mind, actually, by Chinese during the WWI.

But if you mean various map parodies not relating to WWI, well, I think there are few... Not many. It's difficult to say because European civilizations practically invented the modern civilization, so...

But I will think about this though.

Non-Eurocentric WWI map... A respondent has made me think.

Not sure if this occured during Opium Wars or WWI, but I think it has more to do with WWI scene.

Stay tuned for next post.
