Marianne Chapman is just 31 years old — but she can’t pick up her kids like she used to, run or even ride a bike.

She doesn’t have full use of her hands and also has problems throughout the rest of her body — and Chapman blames it all on Fixodent denture adhesive cream.

She’s now suing the company that makes the cream, Procter & Gamble, the Florida news station WPTV News Channel 5 in West Palm Beach reported.

According to the complaint that was filed, Chapman suffered and continues to suffer injuries including zinc poisoning and neurological issues from use of the denture cream.

Chapman said she was using three or four tubes of the cream a week.

"It was quite a bit," she said.

In a statement released by Procter & Gamble, the company said, "Fixodent contains ingredients that are generally recognized as safe in the amounts used. A small amount of zinc is used in Fixodent to help the denture stay in place securely."

There are reportedly at least another dozen similar cases across the country, according to WPTV.

The attorneys involved in this case have been active in doing commercials on TV to get people to join the lawsuit.

The manufacturer should have warned of the danger (zinc) or otherwise stated proper use (like how much to use and how much is too much). The manufacturer is charged with anticipating the consumers' stupidity (called misuse). I'm not saying that's right. It's the law. A public policy decision.

Don't use the nasal zinc either. Zicam can cause a person to loose her sense of smell.

Oh, and collodial silver sold in "health" stores is dangerous. Don't use that either. It can turn your skin gray. That's why reputable medical professionals don't use it anymore.

Advice compliments of dr. mom

Dentures is a big help for some of us who are using it. It may be uncomfortable at first. Fixodent product is used to attach dentures to an individual’s gums. A new lawsuit has been filed towards the makers of Fixodent. The initial research was done by an ABC News investigation. The allegation is that Fixodent can lead to zinc poisoning and the company knew and didn’t warn consumers.

That's a lot of tubes a week.
Yeah, that surprised me, too. Also, she's awfully young to wear dentures. I wonder if she has other health problems from disease or physical trauma?

Yes Reba, that's too young and I was wondering why at that age she needed dentures.

That's why I was wondering if she had been in an accident or had some kind of chronic condition that not only caused her to lose her teeth but also might be the source of her other symptoms.

She's not bulimic or using meth is she?

After reading the OP half way, I just kept thinking "METH, METH, METH, SHE DID METH."

Seen a few meth users, it ain't pretty.

I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. Good luck to her.

I've seen the damage that Meth does to peoples' teeth also. I've also seen people in their teens with false teeth too. My guess is lack of hygeine (dental).

I know someone who was born without any teeth, hence the denture at young age. She started wearing it when she was 5 when it was clear that there's no permanment teeth coming in. There are many reasons why one would have it so young.

As for 3/4 tubes a week, something is fishy.....

I detest P&G. But that's just my personal opinion. Their attorneys are going to go back on what Mrs Bucket said, if she was using that much, she needed an adjustment. This was her own misuse of the product. They're not going to pay out on her case.

My family has what we call the "bad teeth gene." I think it's mostly a health thing with us though, rather than heredity. Those of us with early dentures had a lot of high fevers as children, and our enamel may not have formed properly, therefore endangering the teeth.

Never saw "meth mouth" before. Sad.

OK, I have hereditary gum disease. I had to have my lower front teeth removed and a partial denture placed in the summer of 2009. I was 36 at the time. I used Fixodent and other paste type adhesives and they never seemed to keep the partial secure enough. I never used 3-4 tubes a week. PLUS there are instructions and dosage amounts. I truly believe she didn't read ANY of the papers that came with the adhesive. The "If the amount they recommend isn't doing it, then more will fix it." mentality.
I finally found a adhesive that is a dental plastic that works wonders!

Excess zinc causes copper depletion which can lead to permanent nerve damage. P and G should be able to find an alternative substance.

I had friends that lost starting losing their teeth in their 20's and 30's. Some were very poor growing up and did not go the dentist enough or take very good care of their teeth. I lost a tooth as I have bone lost , my dad had this too. My dentist said I have great teeth but I have a bone disease ! Crap!
