Woman breaks leg at hospital, told to call ambulance

In some hospitals, the nurses are not allowed to pick up people who have fallen in the hallway. However, the nurses are obligated to help and pick up the patients if they fall in their rooms at the hospital. It's just that they are forbidden from doing the same in the hallway.

The bureaucracy is the problem. Their hands are tied up due to all of the litigation in the last couple decades. They need to change this before more people suffer for nothing.

I agree. I think embarrassing the bureaucracy in the media may have been the only tool the other employees of the hospital had to help improve things.

Per the link in the OP:
Kevin Smith says in the future, NHS policy in dealing with visitors who need help will focus on "rapid response and transport to the most appropriate clinical setting."

Maybe it worked? Too bad for the woman they used to make it happen though.
