Woman Bites Off Attacker’s Tongue, Takes as Evidence to Police
February 3, 2015
By Ann Schulte
A woman bit off the tongue of her assailant as he sexually assaulted her in an alley and now, thanks to her quick instincts, her attacker is in custody. Adele Barber reports she was walking home when a man brushed past her—then violently pushed her against a wall and sexually attacked her.
Barber told her story to This Morning, and said when he tried to kiss her, she bit down as hard as she could. She successfully bit off a chunk of his tongue and ran—with the tip of his tongue still in her mouth.
She then immediately contacted the police, saving the tongue to give them as vital DNA evidence.
Barber shared that ten years ago she was raped, but when she reported the crime she lacked enough evidence to convict. This time, she said she wanted to prove beyond any doubt that the attack was not consensual.
She told This Morning:
“I’m just going to bite down as hard as I can and it will show it’s not consensual in any way shape or form, get as much DNA as I can and try and cause enough pain to get this guy off me.”
Police were able to match the DNA provided by Barber to other similar attacks, and the attacker has been committed to a psychiatric ward.
Barber said she hopes that by sharing her story, others will be inspired to report similar attacks to the police.
“If you can, fight back as much as you can, get as much evidence as you can,” she said. “And get to the police as quickly as you can.”
