This will prevent having the pipes freeze up when it get really freezing temp. So it is better to be safe then to sorry for not having no water.. Your landlord should have put the insulation on the pipes and electric heater on the pipes to prevent the freeze up the pipes. I had the expeirence in my mobile home as always.

I don't leave faucets dripping. Water has to be running for it NOT to freeze. And, you waste water and stuff. Best way is to make sure that the pipes are well insulated. I had only one house that had a problem, and the tub in that house was on an outside wall. If your water is in an outside wall, I wouldn't worry much about it.

yea i did sometime when outside is cold bad then i did turn some water at night while i sleep

Wonder if it is okay to leave the heater on "auto" and about 68 to 70 degrees??

Nope, I don't leave the water dripping because I don't know about this apartment that we should do that or not.

can you expalin clear to me ? me dont understand what does it mean ? thanks :)

U know cold weather, they get freeze at night or freeze back in east during the day. For example here, I did forgot to turn water off at the hose other day. Tempature here got down to low 20's at night and my hose was alike froze and blew the gozzle off, water came out of hose and ice everywhere around the hose.

Owners are responsible to fix the damage from freeze alike pipe if it got froze then it burst into half. It happened to many people here if they forgot to turn it off . Sometime it is better to leave little water running, keeping moving so it wont get frozen. Cost money to fix them if we are not being careful.

Understand me? My husband has to put some kind of protect on pipe timer to keep it from break.

This owner gave him/her listen of what to do during freeze.

Yes, if you live in an apartment, your landlord is responsible for your well being in the winter ie water taps, heating system and electricity. However, you have to help him/her by complying with what he/she wants you to do. To conserve during winter especially the winter freeze, do not tighten the water taps at nighttime. Make sure there is a drip from both to prevent the taps from freezing.

If no one is in any of the rooms, conserve energy and turn off the lights. With the heating, it would help to bundle up with extra heavy sweaters and buy space heaters. Last year, I had to buy two space heaters to help with the deep freeze as it was so cold. I have one here and it helps with the cold.

ah i got it now .. I always turn off the water. but in winter make me brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr i have to dress up warm clothes lol

i always watch the tv news weather ... sometime the tv news weather make some mistake and not perfect either .... when the winter will below minus like -3 i must turn the water drip on during night time ... because sometime the heater is not working and the ice beat the heater pipes... i have been thru the u.p michigan... the u p michigan has lots of minus - degree ... my water were frozon twice time in last two weeks ago ... thats why i have to kept the water drip ( just little bits let water drips during the night time ) i already putted electric heat pipes under the grounds and pipe machine and pipes also ...
when the water frozon, i hate to asked another neigbor to use their showers or fill up the milk bottles .... thats lifes !

OH yeah I remember last year during winter time my water was forzen ! so had to call landlord to come and fix so now it fixed! lol .. i live on house but it is apt lol :D

As a home owner for 10 years and live on Northeast Coast, I must 'winterize' the faucet outside of the house / in basement, too. First in the basement, I shut off the outside faucet's pipe then I go outside to open the faucet to prevent the bursting of the pipes in the basement. I don't leave any water running anywhere in the house.

wtf? sorry to say this..

I have been living three different houses that I rented since almost 8 years.. different landlords..

Plus I have lived in Minnesota all my life, right now the temp is 4.. we living cold wintery.. below freezing..

the main important to keep the temperature at 69-71... to keep your house warm and pipes too..

If your pipes arent insulation.. get those washer wipers (for cars).. pour 1 cup in.. to let it run down and sit if you not use for example.. extra bathroom .. toilet and sink.. laundry sink..

I think your landlord shouldnt tell you.. and leaving water running slightly.. (it runs up your bill if your paying for it).. whats more leave cupboards open.. why is that? it will make no difference.. you can check with health dept,..

Since i am renting this house.. I let my landlord know that the windows have bad drafts.. he came and put plastic over the windows.. and
chalking around some woodframe windows... he did great job..

You can try this.. if you feel drafts from your windows.. cover up with plastic.. buy your own or have landlord pay for it.. actually i was planning to buy but landlord want to do it..

Hope you guys stay warm..

I have done putting the plastic around my son's bedroom windows. Since there is draft there. BRRRRRRR now I will work on my kitchen window but gotta wait til my heater get going. I aint moving til it warm in this house lol.
