Winter arrives late, bites hard in Canada, U.S.

Today was my turn to bring my class and another class to library in the other building at my school. The other building is like a 5 min walk and library period was at 9 am. By the time we entered the other building, we all looked like we were in a lot of pain. LOL! The kids were complaining of their faces hurting.

Oh I forgot to add that I64/I65 northbound was a demolition derby with too many cars wrecked on the interstate.

I am from the west coast its not been cold much we had spring like weather chances of rain expected this weekend. Move west from the cold ha

It's been below freezing for over a week here in Rochester. It's supposed to continue that way for another week or two. If this keeps up, we could have winter through the spring. :Ohno:

WOW!! we had alot of snow today eh, well yesturday now. From 3-5 inches. I was driving to work & the roads were terrible. By the time I got off work they was plowed pretty good & much better driving on the way home..

Snowed during the night...2 inches. My school is CLOSED so I am off!!!! :hyper:

I'm SO glad I live in south Texas. Nice and warm here!!! :D

Have you forgotten about the ice storm ALREADY?!! I heard that it had all major roads and the highways shut down for DAYS. Winter isn't over yet, so I wouldn't get out the shorts and suntan lotion for a few more weeks. Could have a second round of the stuff. You never know.

Cold in KY

It's the same in Lexington. Going in to work was interesting the last couple days. Took me an hour on Monday night and how often can I get away with driving just 55-60mph on the highway? I'd rather go slow and get there in one piece... so far so good.

My nephew is PO'ed at the weather. Hasn't had school for a week and he's worried that they'll cancel Spring Break.

Not again!!!

Jolie,

Check out the news when you get a chance. Channel 36 is saying that KY is getting more snow next week (Mon, Tue, and Wed). I hope they can find enough salt for the roads. Plows and the water company are going to be busy again. Have you had many water main breaks in Danville?

Where's Malfy?

It's been awhile since Malfoyish has posted anything. I hope she isn't buried in all the white stuff that NY has had recently. 100" is over 8 feet of snow. NO THANKS! KEEP IT! DON'T WANT IT HERE!

N.Y. county nearing 100 inches of snow
Fri Feb 9, 12:40 PM ET

New York's governor declared a disaster in Oswego County, where five straight days of lake-effect squalls have dumped nearly 100 inches of snow, and even more snow was forecast through the weekend.

The heavy snow started sweeping in off Lake Ontario late Sunday and has pounded the area almost relentlessly since then.

"Oswego is like right in the middle, so every time it goes by us, we get a little bit of snow — actually, a lot of snow," said Oswego Mayor Randy Bateman. "At certain periods of the day, the wind just keeps it right over us. Dumping and dumping."

"You know, it was neat when it started because we hadn't gotten any snow in December or January," Bateman added. "It's getting old now."

Gov. Eliot Spitzer declared a state disaster emergency Thursday, authorizing all state agencies to help assist municipalities and residents in the storm-wracked region. The cities of Oswego and Mexico had already declared their own emergencies, kept schools closed most of the week, and restricted all nonessential travel.

Parts of the county were getting as much as 3 inches of snow an hour Thursday night, said Dave Sage, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. On top of that, high wind was creating whiteout conditions.

By Friday morning, the town of Parish had gotten 94 inches of snow.

"They'll get more tonight, probably enough to eclipse 100 inches over seven days," weather service spokesman Jon Hitchcock said Friday.

More than a week of bitter cold and slippery roads have contributed to at least 20 deaths across the northern quarter of the nation — five in Ohio, four in Illinois, four in Indiana, two in Kentucky, two in Michigan, and one each in Wisconsin, New York and Maryland, authorities said.

Tennessee and northern Alabama were getting a taste of the wintery weather as well Friday morning — sleet and freezing rain iced over roadways, and some precipitation was turning to snow.

In Oswego, water main breaks and an animal ice rescue were adding to the challenges for city workers, Bateman said.

"Unfortunately, the forecast is for the same through the weekend," the mayor said. "Hopefully, it won't be as intense. But if it is, we'll just clear it as the snow stops and wait for it to start again."

Hey there ITP John -

Yeah, I had heard about the snows that are in the forecast for Mon, Tue and Wed. I just pray that it won't happen at all.

As far as I know, There's no main water breaks around here yet but there were some of my friends here in Danville saying that they got their pipes frozen due to the artic air. It hasn't happened to me yet though but I just hope it doesn't! lol

It's gonna be another cold week. Stay Warm! :)

A lot of main water breaks around the DC and Baltimore area in the last 5 days. It is a nightmare. One broke near my home and the water just froze instantly causing problems for the workers.

Still very cold here and it is supposed to snow again on Monday and Tuesday.
